VITAS HEALTH CARE VITAS Provided nursing staff that refused to implement the doctors orders contributing to my mothers premature death. Melbourne FLORIDA

During the end of my mothers life, there were two nurses that created unecessary suffering and likely contributed to her premature death.

One nurse failed to communicate my wishes to the ER and hospital. This resulted in my mom being disconnected from critical life support IV's and IV antibiotics while in Sepsis possibly a version of sepsis shock. No one bothered to call me, the power of attorney, before discontinuing critical life support.

Another nurse refused to implement the doctors orders to restart these IV fluids and IV antibiotics, while making up endless excuses and obfuscating care from 1;))Pm until the end of her shift around 6:00PM  or 7:00 PM

This all resulted in about 36 hours of no fluids or antibiotics, while my mom was in extreme distress. In my opinion this led to her premature death since she could not recover from all these assaults in her weakened state.

I contacted management (Kathleen Kashow) and gave them a formal letter on July 10, 2019. Although Kathleen aagreed and she told me that if it was her in my situation, she would have been a "lunatic in the hallway" to assure that the care orders were implemented.

I have asked Kathleen to terminate these nurses and assure that some verifable accountability had been taken for these individuals. I had also asked that an explanation be provided from the individuals for their actions. 

I only received her verbal note that she had made changes so this would not happen again. I do not feel that this is adequate for a situation that might be labeled lated as negligent homicide. This is pending a legal review.

These same nurses could be watching over your loved ones right now. If not at VITAS, then somewhere else, and we can only assume that noone would know the better.

The section for "CALL TO ACTION" states:

1. Explanations for these medical mistakes and obfuscation of critical care has never been provided.
2. No verifiable accountability has been provided.
3. These same individuals could be watching over your loved ones right now.
4. Do what Kathleen says she would do " be a lunatic in the hallway" if it is necessary to assure you are getting the care for your loved one.
5. The VITAS nurses, that did a good job, should hunt down these individuals and let them know what they have done to me, my mother and the VITAS organization.
6. If we had a strong decisive action from the VITAS management, as described in my letter to Kathleen, then it would have protected the integrity and reputation of all those who worked diligently to care for their patients. I am sorry that this needs to reflect on their good work.
7. As it is, Kathleen only told me verbally, that she made changes, so this would not happen again. No details were provided. It looks like her need to protect the people and jobs of nurses that did a bad job, is more important than anything else.
8. No one that watched their loved one suffer would accept this, and I do not accept it either.
