Awful, they have had my car for ten days and the price just keeps going up. Check them out with the local BBB, many complaints. Do not make the mistake I made, you will be sorry. Go anywhere but here. When they could not repair my car in five days (supposed to be two) I went to have it towed (when I took it in it still drove) and they would not let me leave until I paid them. What was I supposed to pay for?
The original estimate was $2,400 for a transmission rebuild, I was assured that this was the problem, and since they do transmission work for a living I trusted their opinion. The next day I was called and told it was going to be $3,600, well I did not have much of a choice now that the transmission was out of the vehicle and in pieces so I said that this sounds like my only choice so go ahead. The next day I come to get my vehicle and it is performing exactly like it was the day I brought it in, with an emphasis on "exactly". The owner of the shop decided that it was actually a computer problem but was sure that my transmission needed rebuilding anyway, it should be noted that the vehicle only has 65,000 miles. The computer is going to be an additional 600 dollars. I still do not have my vehicle but have contacted the Bureau of Automotive Repair. I will continue to update as the story unfolds.

The account made by the owner is mostly factual other than the fact that he did not personally come to pick up the transmission but sent someone to put it in the trunk of their car and he was initially told that the overdrive light was flashing off and on and that the night before, I had unplugged the battery for ten minutes in an attempt to reset the computer. After resetting the computer the vehicle made it from Lafayette CA, to Oakland, without a problem, this was also told to the shop owner. Upon arriving in Oakland, the problem that had occured the night before was again present. If the problem existed, then did not, and then occurred again I would have a tendency to believe that it is an electrical problem. After all the transmission can not burn up and then be fine and then burn up again can it? The technicians at the Aamco in Davis, California, (where I broke down after my $4200 rebuild) commented that the vehicle was overfilled with fluid and that they believed that the wrong gaskets had been used, since my vehicle is equipped with a place for an optional PTO. I am not familiar with transmissions, but if my truck is in Davis and the transmission was taken to Oakland to fix the problems, would the lines remain on the truck? The reply says it had a clogged line. When I initially had problems the trans never heated up. One thing I can say is that the lead builder at the shop whom I eventually began communicating with appeared to be more on top of the customer service than the owner, who appeared to not actually have much mechanical know how.

First let me say Each AAMCO Transmission Franchise is individually owned and All Franchises are not the same.
We strive on getting the job done right and customer satisfied. Unfortunately the customer in this case was not satisfied.
When the customer first came in to the AAMCO transmission Center we checked the 2002 Ford F450 Diesel Super Duty truck and found that it had only First and second gear only. We scanned the trucks computer and found No CODES for any fault. We then checked the transmission fluid and transmission fluid was burnt. This led us to conclude that there is an internal failure inside the transmission and notified the customer the Basic overhaul price for the Rebuild of $2395.00 (included in the Basic overhaul is removal tear down, rebuild labor and installation of the overhaul kit which includes All Clutches, Seals, bands, Metal clad seals, filter and gasket sets.) normally called soft parts and also notified him that if there is any hard parts or electronics would be additional. This was explained to the customer before the work had even begun and also gave the customer similar transmission jobs prices on prior repairs. Prices ranged from the 2800-4500 for the transmission rebuild depending on the excess damage inside the transmission. Customer was notified the transmission could be completed in 2-3 days. When he authorized the repair to begin it was Monday. I notified him after we remove the transmission, disassemble it I will let him know the extent of the damage. Which I did the following day and gave him the final price of $3443.94. I also threw in an internet coupon which he was not aware of for $100 off. He gave us the go head and the transmission was rebuilt on time Wednesday afternoon around 3 PM as promised. Unfortunately during the road test we found that there was a shifting problem. The customer was there and he witnessed at the time the whole thing and was not happy which was not unreasonable.
When we diagnosed the cause of shifting malfunction we detected a Code from the computer of the truck a Computer code. A P0603 Internal Control Module Cam Failure code. As we were trying to diagnose and research the code the customer was getting irate and was calling Ford Dealership and getting information on the code. Which he notified me then he had used a Programmer and cleared the code prior to bringing the vehicle to the Shop. This crucial information would have helped in the initial diagnostic. After following the steps for the ECM code we came to the conclusion that that Computer was the source of the failure which caused the transmission to fail. By this time the customer did not want to believe it. The customer was there to witness the whole process and still was not willing to accept it out of frustration. Another reason for the customer's frustration was also that he was out of town and wanted to go home. I notified the customer we are working as fast as we can but we wanted to make sure the Vehicle was working properly before delivering it.
At this point we knew the vehicle's transmission was not the problem but the Computer failure. We tried to get a computer delivered but could not find any locally. The fastest we could get one from the Dealer was in 5-7 business days which frustrated the customer even more. By this time he had received false information from some Dealership telling him it is not the computer and it was a minor code, which aggravated the situation. I told the Customer I would call all of my vendors and try to locate a computer that could get here over night. By this time it was close to 5pm and customer was given a ride to the Hotel where he was staying. The next day we were able to locate a computer to be rushed next day delivery. Customer was ok with that. On Friday I was not in but the customer dealt with Customer Service Manager, where he was told for some reason the new computer received had an error due to bad reprogramming and another Computer was not going to get there until the next day Saturday. At this point customer was so furious that he called the police to get the vehicle out of the shop with out paying for the work done. The manager refused to release the vehicle with out payment and that he could void his warranty by driving it with a bad computer. Manager talked to the customer and was able to calm him down and customer left. On Saturday we received the Computer and installed it and the truck was fixed. I called the customer and notified him that the vehicle was complete.
Customer picked up the vehicle on Monday and drove off. Later that day we received a call from another AAMCO Transmission in
We strive to make our customers happy and we stand behind our work 100%. We are conscious of any time constraints that our customers have and we do our best to complete the repair at hand in a timely manner. Sometimes not getting parts in time causes repair time to be longer which causes customer frustration. We try to explain and accommodate to the best of our ability but you cant please every one.

i am a master rebuilder and i have been in the transmission business for 17 years. i can only say that this is terrible and i hope this will shead some light on this problem . the transmission business is a highlly profitable inderstery and the more people that they can pack in on a busy week helps them on a slow week and some people dont mind the wait . some cars computer goes bad and the shop will never know until they crack the tranny open to find a problem like a burnt pack and a good solonide and a good valve body ,the builder will say that he found the effect but did not find the cause ,so the problem must be outside the transmission . many other things it could be when the transmission starts acting up , stop and call a towtruck, dont keep driving it . a transmission rebuild should never cost more than 2000 a cvt is 4900 their are many companies that do remans and the warranty is 3 years and 100000 miles remans are great bup rebuilds are also if the shop has a good builder . rebuild kit is usally 100 torque converter is 120 solonide packs are 100 epc solonide 100 gil younger shift kit 50 updated shell 50 out put ptanet set 100 fluid 50 filter 10 the cost verses mark up is huge and lobor is unbelivable . i can only say ask somany questions like whats the turn around time and can i hold you to it if you dont delever will you get me a rental car this is a #1 insentive plan if they wont your in the wrong shop i need my old parts even the seals that you pull out of the drums and the solonides and clotches and the rear man seal in the engine some shops wont do a rearmain because they dont wont to be responceable if it starts leaking , if they dont ,your in the wrong shop get an itiemized list of parts and call trans star or transmission parts unlimited to see what the mark up is . if a shop is dirty this should tell u what kind of work u can expect
