I had my transmission repaired in August 2003 and it cost over $1700.00 for the repair and the 36 month or 36000 mile extended warranty. I was told that my transmission was rebuilt and the shift cable was replaced which added to the problem. I recently had to take it back because it wasn't shifting properly.

I was informed that the transmission they took out was not theirs and that I had a used transmission installed since the car left their shop in August and I would have to pay for the repair again. Of course, that isn't true so I had no choice but to let them do it again in order to get my car back, which is still there as I write this. I would be brain dead to put a used transmission in my car if I had a warranty for 36 months which covered all parts and labor if failure occurred. And I am near an Aamco center where I live. I brought it back to the shop that did the work, because I felt they would give me better service. My assumption of this is that the repair was never done in the first place and only the shift cable was replaced, which fixed the problem.

he knows that 99% of all customers won't deal with it they will just put it down to experience and let it go

It would do both of you to get together and go to the city attorney there. If I remember right one of you lives about 20 miles away up around Dillon falls and the other lives up there around or a little past Canton and I no its a 90 mile trip but it would be worth it in the long run with both of you there it shows the city attorney a trend and it might with a lot of complaining and belly aching get him started because even if all he does is make a phone call to the shop owner he don't want that and lord have mercy if home office hears about the city calling. He will have to handle it quick, See what people don't think about, Is he knows that 99% of all customers won't deal with it they will just put it down to experience and let it go but that is why he is doing what he is doing also with both of you together it could be possible to get it on the local news channel with some trouble shooting reporter they don't like that neither. This I know because I've seen it work while I was in the business. Good luck

Armco's in this State (Ohio) and in a few neighboring States got in a lot of trouble for doing what the shop in Ohio is doing now, plus a few other under handed tricks. Maybe its time for it to happen again just stop an think if they are trying this with you how many other people have they done this to? When you call the police that is what I would do also call a action line TV station and remind them about the problems home office had here 20 or 30 years ago maybe they will replace a few owners with honest ones.

Join the club!! they said they installed a rebuilt system& it was guarenteed! 2nd.,it ran for about 48 hrs

The same thing happened to me!!Same place,Zanesville.1st., they said they installed a rebuilt system& it was guarenteed! 2nd.,it ran for about 48 hrs.{my rip-off occured in Jan,right after xmas,& was almost $2,000}are you seeing a pattern here? So,they told me how 'fortunate' I was because now I was to have a shiny, brand new AAMCO transmission installed & it came with the'lifetime guarentee'.Well, apparently I'm dead!,because this transmission didn't last a year!!!!3rd,I call to report this ,have to leave the Jimmy overnight.Sat.morning hubbie can go with me to pick up vehicle.Step4,we're greeted by slimeball #1 who tells us that they can fix Jimmy for another near $2,000.No,no, get the manager!Enter slimeball#2.Surprize!! The wee wee wee little box was not checked on my invoice, therefore I couldn't possibly have a lifetime guarentee!Surprize again, the original slimeball that did all this was gone, nobody knows where he has gone{dare I say Surprize again?}This orig.slimeball asked me to handwrite a note & mail it in telling about the wonderful service, the shiny, brand new 'soupcan' & how I'd recommend this AAMCO to family & friends;which,of course I did!Now he's nowhere to be found & as I cry that this is unfair & they need to fix this...I spot my note hanging from their message board for new suckers to see & believe. It came down in a hurry & the young couple that had come in & waited their turn, got up & left!!!My only sense of satisfaction for my wasted $2,000!I left with my broken vehicle & cried all the way home.It took us 6 months to pay off the loan for having the work done. So'I feel for you.If you'd like to join the club,I'll let you be the President!

Reminds me of a deceptive trick I witnessed years ago......

AUTHOR: Adolph - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, February 15, 2004

First off, AAMCO has an absolutely rotton track record for performing repairs that result in any reasonable service life.
.
But I digress......
.
Many years ago I worked in low level management in at a new car dealer. When things got slow in the shop (and sometimes when they didn't), the transmission tecs. would go out on the used car lot and pull the hose off the vacuum modulator (on a car so equipped). Bingo! A car that wouldn't shift (unless the engine was screaming). Then followed a faux "repair" for 10 or 12 hours labor when the hose was reconnected. This really put me in a bind. I didn't narc the tecs out, as the dealership was still way ahead of the game screwing employees and customers alike. EVERY high mileage used car auction purchase generated a repair order stating :"repair clock". This was service dep't. jargon for turning back the speedometer. And that was just the tip of the iceburg, so to speak.
.
I wasn't really comfortable witha this deception even though it could be considered just deserts for the dealership. I did tell the tecs I'd rat them out if they ever did their trick on a customer's car.
.
Sadly, the dealer principle discovered what was going on. (what the hell is it with all these used cars that won't shift?) I always thought that the dealer's shifty mind and the scams he pulled perhaps enabled him (as dumb as he was) to see through the gravy train the transmission tecs had set up.
.
That's so long ago it now seems like another life. My dislike and lack of trust of new car dealers remains to this day, however. The likes of the "Repo Joe", "Price Slasher", "Emergency Wholesale disposal sales" crap....etc. etc....
is evidence they still practice the same devious methods and schemes that initiated and maintains their seedy reputation.

old trick ..theft by fraud and obstruct police investigation

AUTHOR: Greg - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, February 14, 2004

Thats an old trick one way I have seen this handled is to go to the shop and ask them if they are sure its not their transmission if they say it isn't theirs. Ask to use the phone and call the police you want to report a theft. When the police get there tell them that the shop knows how to identify the transmission that was installed by them. Now they can have two choices finish a theft by fraud and obstruct police investigation or they can fix the car under warranty the choice is theirs to make because if they say it isn't the transmission they put in and you didn't put in a used one then you are a victim of a theft.
