My Saab broke down and AAMCO said it would cost $39.99 with a free tow to diagnose what was wrong with 100% guarantee. So we had them toe it over to there shop. They called us and said the transmission was bad and it would cost $465.00 to pull it out and fix it and reinstall it. So we said yes go ahead and do it. Then they called and said that they where not able to get it apart and fix it and that we would have to buy another transmission.
They where going to charge me the $465.00 to put it back in and not fix anything and I could have it back. Or I could get a transmission to them to put in. I didn't have the money for a transmission at the time so they charged me $25 wk for storage until I could pick up my car.
I bought a transmission and had it sent to them and they had it almost 2 weeks without doing any work on it and by this time my car was in the shop for 12 weeks. So when they got it fixed I had to pay $300.00 in storage plus the $465.00 for them to put it in.
I got an oil change done and all the fluids checked on 3/19 it was towed to my house 3/30, and then towed to the shop on 4/06. They said the transmission had no oil in it and that is why it locked up. I just picked it up from the shop on 7/30/2006 (Saturday) and drove it for a day and a half. On Sunday I went to reverse and there was a big clunk and I had no reverse at all. And to get it into 5th gear I had to lift up on the lever (that I am suppose to be able to put it into reverse with) to get it into 5th gear, and my second gear was having trouble getting it to go in every time.
Well I first called where I got the transmission and they said that everything that I explained to them was because it wasn't installed correctly. So I called AAMCO and they said to bring it in that it sounded like maybe a bold got loose or something. So on 7/31 I took it into the shop again he said he would get it taken care of that afternoon. My husband called at 4:35 to check on the status of it and Tim said they where getting ready to look at it and that they hadn't gotten it in yet. So at 4:55 I got a call from AAMCO saying that they looked at it and it wasn't anything they did to make it not go into reverse (when it worked fine in all gears before) some how he checked it all out in about 20min to verify this. He said it was prob in the gear shift not in the transmission.
When they diagnose my car it was only the transmission that they said was not working and when I got it back my gear shifter wasn't working.
When I got my oil change done I had my car 1 wk before it broke down and when I got it out I went straight over and got another oil change because it sat for so long. In the week I drove my car I put around 640 miles on it and the differance when I got it back was almost 1000 miles so while they had it they put around 360 miles on it and tore up my rime on the tire.
He asked me what I wanted him to do and I said that he needed to fix my car and make it work. But at the same time they had no experience in taking apart the gear shifter so I really don't want them to touch it because I am afraid that they will mess up something else.
I feel I paid with tax $826.00 to them and another ($625.00 for the transmission) for them to drive it (anyway they wanted to) and to damage my rim. And I am unable to use it.
I feel that they where not honest with me at all and think that I have my car in there again that it will only get worse and if I go somewhere else AAMCO gets away with treating customers poorly and it is more out of pocket cost to me.
