Active Periodicals ripoff high pressure false magazine contract obligation from a year ago? Deerfield Beach Florida

Interesting phone calls (4) in one evening explaining that I could get my five (only recieve 3) magazines reduced to 2 for $19 a month versus the $30+ month I already 'have' to pay.

Fact is I fell for the free watch scam over a year ago, tried to cancel it, was told I could for a lump sum, paid the lump sum, was told that my magazines would continue to arrive until the subscriptions were through.

Then on 9/24/04 I recieve a call telling me that I probably don't have time to read all my magazines and that they could reduce my burdent to just $19 a month for just two magazines.

I recieve another call (person #2) and explain I'd just like to cancel. I am told that's fine. (This was on tape supposedly)

I recieve yet another call (person #3). It's explained to me that she's doing me a favor of trying to reduce my burden. That in Kansas I have do have a contractual obligation to the publishers. That Active is just the middle man. She'd like to tell me how to cancel. Then tells me I'd have to look up the addresses inside the front cover of the magazines and write to them. Meanwhile Active Periodicals would be collecting the $19 a month.... etc... I ask for the contract to mailed to me and am advised it'll be out in tonight's mail (19:15 EST). This wasn't on tape as far as I know.

(48 months, $19 a month, for two monthly magazines!) I don't think so.

Fourth phone call (within an hour & 1/2) arrives. I explain that I'm not agreeing to anything. (Again this one was supposed to be on tape too.).

I know I'm signed up on the Do Not Call....

Please advise if have similar stories.
