August 24, 2013 Upon arrival at the Alamo car rental counter we met and talked with sales rep "Tom" he proceeded to tell us that we had a Kia Sorrento then told us it was too small that we needed a larger vehicle, unknown to us we actually already had a Jeep Compass, plenty big enough for our needs. (At this point we feel we were being lied to because he wanted to scam us into a Luxury vehicle we did not want.) Tom then got out a black binder and opened it up to Jeep Grand Cherokees for $84.00/wk. more. We told him No thank you, we just didn't want it, that it was more then we needed as we only had 3 people in our family, we simply needed transportation and we had already PRE-paid and just wanted our PRE-paid rental vehicle only. Tom then switched to insurance and asked if we had insurance we proceeded to tell him that we had already called our Car insurance that my wife and I both had FULL coverage car insurance. Tom proceeded to tell us that it would not cover an accident if we had a door ding or other shop related accident that we would be responsible to "SIT with the vehicle until it was repaired, that another vehicle would not be issued, that we would also be INSTANTLY billed for ANY damage to the vehicle", unless we paid for additional coverage.

At this point I became VERY irritated and could easily see he was trying to take advantage of my nervousness from being from out of town and trying to STEAL MONEY from me through intimidation I told him that I was done with the talking, that Tom was wasting my time, that we already IN GOOD FAITH paid him and Alamo for a car rental, that we had already been on a plane for 2.5 hrs. We also were all hungry especially my 8 yr. old daughter, who was beginning to cry. Tom didn't care about this, and became belligerent, and exerted unfair power over us and attempted to intimidate me into a further fight and potential physical confrontation by claiming I didn't care about his HIS JOB, Tom kept talking relentlessly and would not let up, I told Tom to "let it go" (let the situation go, and forget about getting any more money from us.) I did this Several Times!Tom rounded off his rant after I finally told him no matter what more he said no more money was coming his or Alamos way Tom became more forceful and again told me that I was preventing him from doing his job. Tom finally said, "I'm not renting you a car today." Tom then rudely turned his back on us and walked through a doorway behind him and closed the door, leaving my wife 8 yr. old child and myself just standing there with nowhere to go, no way to leave the airport as Alamo already had our money.

At that point my wife got involved and pleaded with him "please sir" as she spoke to the closed door he had left through. The door opened back up as it seemed that Tom could hear us from behind it, he came back out grabbed a form started to make "X's" where I was to initial so he could then finally give us our car. We never swore or used any profanity towards Tom and politely at first declined is attempts to sell us extra things for our rental, but we simply said we were not going to rent something other than what we had said we already paid for! Also again please note we told him we had our own FULL COVERAGE CAR insurance. After we signed the forms he presented my wife accepted the keys from him and we walked away and said nothing more to him we were so angry we just wanted to get our rental and leave the airport.

In closing we want this fully noted and paid close attention to: that we were trapped/held hostage at Tampa airport by Tom and Alamo. I feel this is no longer a customer/sales rep situation but had turned into a Criminal hostage situation because it was against our will and we had PRE-paid for our vehicle, not haggling if we actually had a vehicle rented or not. This also is NOT hard selling, it was threatening terrorizing mean spirited behavior, Tom Purposely and maliciously meant to intimidate and deny us our rights as human beings/American citizens. We paid in good faith and wanted to leave the airport we were denied by Tom (I call him Tom because "Tom" had no last name on his badge I feel because Alamo does not want their criminal sales staff identified so they cannot be located and any customer issues can be "brushed under the rug.") Further based on Tom's PERFORMANCE as an Alamo Rep Tom should not be doing any customer related activities as he is unable to help people properly or treat people and children in a proper manner. Tom intimidated, terrorized, and disrespected my wife 8 yr. old daughter and me, full PRE-paying customers. Tom is nothing more than a vindictive bully and should be relieved of his activities with Alamo Immediately. xtorting money for car insurance to release pre-paid rental
