I recently purchased one of those list you see everywhere on ebay these days..."Wholesalers list for ipods, mp3 players, car audio, tvs. etc..." I only paid $3.50 for it and got a refund. But the problem is with the website offered as "the best." It is alibaba.com.

The process is you find the product you want from a wholesaler and then contact them with your request. They usually require a purchase of 5 units or $500 minimum, an amount worth stealing! Then they say "1st time customers must use Western Union and you cannot use COD." Of course, there are no 2nd time customers for cons. They provide a tracking number for UPS that is obtained electronically, so UPS has no knowledge if the package actually exists. You send the money and never get the items ordered. Pay a little more on ebay or at a local store for electronics and AVOID ALIBABA.COM

Avoid getting scammed

AUTHOR: Jamie - (Canada)

POSTED: Sunday, January 15, 2006

I know quite a lot about alibaba.com as I have been doing business on this site for the past year or so. I am writing this report to warn other people but also to encourage them.

There are some great companies on alibaba that are truspass and/or goldsuppliers. Many of these are chinese manufacturers and they accept secure methods of payments. Unfortunately only about 25% of the companies on alibaba are legit. 75% are frauds. I have once sent money to a scammer and I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

Alibaba unfortunately protects the scammers because if they were to kick them out, they wouldn't be the huge trading website they are today. That doesn't mean you can't do business on this website, just be very very careful. Here are some tips:

Any company that asks you to pay them with western union or money gram is a fraud. Period. No legit company ever asks this.

Second, never pay using T/T (telegraphic transfer) unless you know the company well and have done business with them. T/T is not a secure method of payment.

For the love of God, never send cash. If you do, you're a complete idiot and probably deserve to be scammed.

Be careful paying by Paypal. It is semi-secure. Very secure for ebay payments but outside ebay, not so sure.

Don't send any checks, certified or not.

Here are secure methods of payments: Credit cards - AMEX, Visa, Mastercard. L/C (letter of credit). Like I said, once you've done some good business with a trustpass member or goldsupplier, you can pay T/T.

Don't waist your time sending inquiries to companies that aren't trustpass or goldsuppliers. They are 99% of the time, scammers.

Here is a scam you will want to watch out for: A scammer sends you a price list of the latest nano ipods and sony psp's. They want you to believe they are legit so they ask you to pay with western union but to write a fake name so that they won't be able to retrieve the money until you get your items. SCAMMMMMM!!! Don't fall for it!!

Second scam...the scammer will again ask you to pay for western union but this time, they say they will leave the package to TNT or UPS or SquareTrade (they will even send you a fake email by SquareTrade) and they will tell you that one of these companies will check out the merchandise to see if all is ok then send you an email (fake) confirming that the merchandise is all good. SCAMMMMMM!!! None of these companies checks or holds merchandise...ever!!!

Finally, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. People sending you a list of brand new nano ipods for 50$ each is scamming the hell out of you.

I already understood what you said, I wouldnt pay for anything Western Union anyways. My question was besides the $3.50 you spent on the list, did you purchase anything off of any of the vendors?
I have been sending emails to vendors, and have been getting responses very promptly. I only see three reports on this site with affiliation to alibaba, so I think I am gonna proceed to use their companies, of course with research and communication.

Alibaba.com provides the platform for scams

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 07, 2005

Anthony you are correct, Alibaba.com doesn't sell any products. They only provide the platform for scam artists to rip people off. Most of the sellers are not verified and only accept Western Union for the 1st purchase (because you would NEVER make a second purchase after being ripped off the first time).

Anthony... WESTERN UNION????

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 07, 2005

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER pay for ANYTHING with Western Union. IT IS A SCAM. If a vendor only takes Westen Union for payment, it is a scam. There is NO product. There will be NO delivery.

You need to read the many scams and rip-offs on this site Anthony. In a nutshell, if anybody, company, person, dealer, ANYONE that is trying to sell you something requests that you pay upfront with Western Union, stay away. There is NO way to track a W.U. payment. So, the guy gets his money, and you get NOTHING!

Understand now?

Did you try Alibaba

AUTHOR: Anthony - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 07, 2005

I have discovered this website, alibaba.com, and have so far found some very good prices on some items. My question is, besides the $3.50 you spent on the list, did you actually buy anything from any company off of this website? It seems that you just say they will do this and that, but you didnt say you purchased anything from any of the vendors.
If you did get ripped off, what did you buy? Were you sent a fake tracking #, or are you assuming you will be ripped off. I have been browsing around alibaba and have found links to many other websites. You cant actually be ripped off by alibaba, since they dont actually sell you anything. They merely provide a place to buy/sell for everyone else. Please more concrete facts, since I am looking into using this site myself.
