I Bought a AlienWare Laptop back in Nov. 2006 and i upgraded my operating system from Windows XP to Windows Xp MediaCenter(a 100 dollar difference) because they had a promotion on a free upgrade to windows vista if the media center was purchased. Ever since the release of vista we had called alienware at least every month to see what had to be done to receive our copy of vista. I was always told that i would eventually be contacted by them informing me of said process.
I called today June 20 2007, and they informed me that the upgrade is no longer possible. Apparently the last day for you to be able to receive your upgrade was March 31st.
I dont understand how, out of the many times i called, they couldnt have told me first that the deadline was march 31st, second simply explain the process to me, no one in there customer service line ever new.
After i found out that i would no longer be able to receive the upgrade to vista i accepted it and simply asked if i could possibly receive a refund for the extra 100 dollars that i paid for the free upgrade, and they refused to give it. They said it is not there responsibility if i was unaware and was not able to submit the required information before the deadline.

vista

maybe back then it was buggy.
but with SP1 its stable.
his problem is that alien ware is a bad company to get products from unless you are a techie and able to fix what is nearly every single pc failure.
Vista is better than xp (if u have the ram/hd to spare)...
though there are major apps with problems ...most are doing fine.
Games.... I dont play that many so its no rush for me..

Did you know that the GAO has told all agencies of the Federal Government that they ARE NOT to upgrade to any version of Windows Vista? The did this because the Vista systems are too buggy and too many compatibility (with hardware and software) problems.
I have advised all my client to not upgrade to Vista at this time. But, I always advise my clients to wait until the OS in the field a minimum of 12 months before considering an OS upgrade - this is to allow most of the bugs to be identified to OS developer and hopefully fixed.
They may have done you a favor if you haven't ugraded to Vista. BTW, I'm still using XP Pro - gonna wait some more before ugrading.
Also, some time ago, Gates announced that his goal was to come out with an OS revision every 3 years (doesn't matter if there is any functionality improvements or not.) The only think VISTA does that my XP Pro OS doesn't do is the "smartzy 3d aero interface, and frankly I'd rather have a stable system than a "pretty" desktop.

You complaint title is wrong.

It seems as if your complaint is actually with Alienware, and it would seem that you have a valid complaint against them.
But your title is misleading because it seems as if you are also complaining against Microsoft for Vista, Window XP and Windows Media Center.
