AmSouth Overdraft fees Charged For Pending Transactions ripoff Mount Pleasant Tennessee

AmSouth has charged overdraft fees to my account for a pending transaction. There is a positive balance in our account. There will still be a positive balance in the account when all debits post. There is a pending deposit to the account as well as all pending debits. There will never be a negative balance.

Upon seeing the overdraft fees I called my husband who went to the AmSouth bank in Columbia TN. The teller could not tell my husband why we were charged over draft fees. My husband spoke to another woman who told him that we must be in the negative to have any overdraft fees. When she pulled up the account she said that all debits go through before pending deposits. My husband also deposited more money on an AmSouth drawn check to cover anything else that could possible go wrong.

I called my local Mount Pleasant brach AmSouth and was told that the computer puts a hold on all pending debit transactions and takes the money out even though the amount hasn't been actually taken out of the account. THe computer does not take into account the pending electronic deposit transactions or any other deposits that will post that day.

She finally admitted that "Yes, we never had a negative balance." She then said that there is no way she could explain the transactions so that I could understand it.

I have searched in vain for hours looking on their website to see where pending transactions can post before they clear. I am very confused.

The lady informed me the money would be returned. I intend to keep on them until they do return the money.

Another interesting thing; a few months ago I deposited an amount of money in cash that didn't go through that day. It was deposited at 10:30 in the morning. The money did not post and LOTS of overdraft fees were incurred. All money was returned to me eventually but it took over a week for them to correct their error.
