American Financial preys on those in need. I found myself in need of cash so I applied for a payday loan. I started getting other offers by phone and email. I got a call from Damion with American Financial who stated that I requested information from their company. He said he was offering me a $2000 line of credit with a $1000 cash advance option with a 8.9% APR. He then explained to me that I would only be able to use the card to buy from American Financial, but that I could still get the cash advance. I was pretty interested in the cash advance, so I continued to listened. Then he told me there would be a $200 "fee" to get the card. I figured I'd still have $800 from the cash advance, so I agreed to the terms and gave him my information.
Well, It's been over a week and I have seen or heard nothing from this company. I have tried to call the number, but get a recording stating "my call cannot be completed at this time". I know what I did was dumb, but I was desperate at the time. Now, I see that my predicament at the time was nothing compared to the stress I have inflicted on myself. I have contacted my bank and informed them of the situation and am patiently waiting for their reply.
I hope that Ripoff Report can do something about AF before they do any more harm. I've read most of the other reports on this company. I feel some better now knowing I have somewhere to come to check things out. I actually found out about you from another legit company who had called to make me a similar offer(I turned them down, explaining what had happened and tehy still helped me by pointing me towards RR). It's a shame that there are legitimate company's who will pay for this one's blatant dishonesty and thievery.

I have further information on this company. My bank gave me a number they were able to find. It turns out that is is for a software company that provides financial software to enable businesses to make charged to customers accounts. This is a legitimate company and they provide this service to small mom & pop type places all the way to Wal-Mart and K-Mart. I explained to them what happened and they were kind enough to give me the number they had on file for american Financial. I called it and it is indeed a real, working number. I still was not able to get anyone, just a message asking me to leave my name and number and someone would call me back by the next business day.
I will continue to call until I get a person (though I don't really believe I ever will). I am thankful for the outcome of my experience with American Financial, but I am also pretty ticked off. I'm not sure what I'll say if I ever get to talk to a person, but I sure hope the good Lord puts the right words in my mouth at the right time!

I filed a complaint with my bank and forwarded the information I collected on American Financial to them. They agreed it sounded fraudulant and I will recieve a full refund of the money taken by American Financial. furthermore, they will stop them from sending any electronic charges to my account.
I asked them to post a notice in the bank and at the teller window about these kinds of scams and I think they will do it. The best way to stop these crooks is to inform the public about them. Of course, now I know that a reputable card company would deduct the charges from the card and not ask for the money up front. When you are desperate, you want to believe anything.
I am very thankful for the outcome of this. It could have been a real nightmare. I'm thankful, too, for this site.
