American Home Shield -home Warranty Services No Oven for two months! Some warranty service! What do you cook for a family of 6 with no oven? Carroll Iowa

When we purchased our home (just 6 months ago), we had some quams about the older stove (1989) originally in the house. The sellers didn't want to replace or give an allowance but agreed to pay for the first years appliance coverage from AHS for us. Supposedly, this would cover any repairs or replacement of the appliances if anything should go wrong. After learning from my mistake, we should have insisted on the new stove!
Well, over the past two months we have been dealing with trying to get our stove fixed or replaced. After 6 wks of them trying to find parts, they finally did. Three new sensors were installed on Tuesday, but unfortunately, during the 6 wks waiting time, the broiler died. Now the appliance man has to order another part (this will take several more weeks because these too are hard to find since the stove is so old) and it could not be completely repaired. So, as I was cooking dinner Tuesday evening, a few hours after the repairman left, the oven 'locked' up. It would not open and would not turn off (@ 450 degrees). Well, at this point my husband went ballistic because he thought it would burn the house down while we slept! Neither the appliance company or AHS could give us a solution short of flipping off the breaker (which would also shut down the refrigerator/freezer and ruin everything in it!) Since then, the oven is possessed and comes on and off whenever it wants. AHS agreed it was a fire hazard but that they were not responsible for any 'secondary' damage. Yep...that's right. It's not their fault or their problem if our house burns down!!

Meanwhile, we have no oven...unless we want to buy one ourselves. Anyway, to sum up the whole thing.....AHS is like having a crappy HMO. You don't really know until you need it. Just don't let anyone you know depend on this for any kind of security. We definitely won't be renewing and I've been spreading the word to everyone I know.
