I have been traveling coach with my wife in Amtrak's Auto Train to Florida for many years and I am very pissed off about what happened during our December 2013 Christmas holidays round trip. Two (2) items were stolen from my 2011 Forrest Green Toyota Rav4.
(1)On 12/21/13 we departed from Lorton-VA (Auto Train 52) and arrived 12/22/13 in Sanford-Fl. While driving 1 hour away from Sanford I noticed that my $100 Vuarnet designer polarized sun glasses were missing from the dashboard compartment below the radio. (2) On 1/2/14 we departed from Sanford-Fl (Auto Train 52) to Lorton-VA and again unsuspecting anything had been missing I drove away and reached my final destination in Garfield-NJ. On the way home I reach for coins I kept in a small black plastic container that I kept in the glove compartment to pay a toll. [continued below]....
After a long wait without response from Amtrak I filled complaints with the BBB and Consumer's Affair.gov.
In addition, today 3/6/14 I received the following email from Amtrak

Thank you for your email and your patience in waiting for a response.
We are sorry to hear that there was property was missing from your vehicle. While passengers on the Auto Train may pack as much as may safely fit inside their vehicle, personal property left in the body is solely the responsibility of the owner. Amtrak disclaims liability for these items. We encourage that any valuables in the body of the car be removed and locked in the trunk or other safe location.
Once again, thank you for contacting us. We look forward to serving your travel needs in the future, under better circumstances.
