I cancelled my AOL account early April 2007 due to unauthorized charges made on my checking account. I have called and wasted countless hours talking to representatives in various departments to not only stop charging my account, but to refund the charges that were already made.

When I spoke with a representative on 4/17/07, I was repeatedly assured that I would not be charged again, and furthermore, it was an error on AOLs end. He told me that in March, my plan was switched from unlimited dial-;[-up for $9.95 to 10 hours of dial-up for the same price without my knowledge. He apologized for the misunderstanding and I was satisfied that the issue was resolved. I also went to my bank and ordered a stop payment for those charges.

I called back a few days later in order to get a confirmation letter stating that the issue was resolved for personal assurance. I was told by this representative that the letter would reach me in 5-10 business days. Needless to say, I have not received that letter.

You can imagine my surprise in opening my online banking account to see another $100.00 charge on my account on 4/30/07. I called customer service and immediately requested to speak with a supervisor. I was able to speak with Addie, the supervisor for the billing department at 12:43am. He assured me that the issue was resolved and that all of the charges incurred as a result would be paid for by AOL. I have been a customer for years, starting with my mother being an account holder. I expected this issue to be taken care of when I called and filed a complaint.

Now, almost a month later, I am spending countless time attempting to resolve this issue. The following pages are my bank statements with the charges highlighted. The total amount is $ 175.00. I would also like to take this opportunity to request that my account information be removed from my account.

I spoke with another supervisor on 6/8/07 who informed me that my claim was denied because the charges were valid. I was told that I tried to get high speed internet with another company and that changed my rate plan. This really upsets me because I think they are using spyware on my computer to see what I'm doing. They were able to tell what company that I was trying to use. I wasn't able to install it because the AOL software blocked the installation software. I am now taking steps to turn this over to my lawer.

In 2004 I cancelled my AOL dial up account. I had cable and got tired of AOL's barrage of ads and junk e-mails just to get my real e-mails, so I signed up with Road Runner. When I called AOL to cancel the account I got the "Oh please don't leave us! You have been a loyal customer for 4 years. You will still get spam on Road Runner so you might as well stick with us because 'we are working on the spam problem'." Yeah right!

They offered me two free months of AOL so I could find out how bad Road Runner was (This is funny because AOL is OWNED by Time Warner Cable, the owner of Road Runner too!).

Gee what a surprise, my checking account showed a charge by AOL for two months of service dated the very next day! I called AOL again. "Oh sorry. Billing made a mistake. We will credit your account in 7-10 business days." Great.

I checked my e-mails for the next month or so using my Road Runner account. I checked and AOL did refund the money they took the first time, but then billed me for two months of High Speed AOL at $49.95 a month! I called them again. "Well, you were using a high speed modem to check your account so we had to bill you for the access." Bull crap! I never sent an e-mail, all I did was check my e-mail and 90% of the time it was all junk anyway.

I continued to b***h and they refunded my $100. A few days later they billed me AGAIN for $100 for two months of high speed! I finally had to cancel my bank account and start a new one! About a year later some bill collector called about the $100 I supposedly owed AOL.

I still had my paperwork and the names of the people I talked to. I ran him down the line of what happened. I never heard back from them again, but my credit report shows a delinquent bill to AOL for the amount. Screw them! I can live with a black mark on my credit report! No wonder they are known as AOhell!
