My husband had an aspire account for 2-3 years. And today 12/11/2008 we received a letter stating that account will be terminated but was still expected to make monthly payments.
My husband called and was told that company made a "managment decision" to close all accounts because of bad economy and that interest would still be included in payment.

So..they close a good account for no reason and then still expect a monthly payment AND interst. What a rip-off. Do we as consumers have any say in any of this. We are trying really hard to keep our credit straight since we paid off all bad credit last year and now this happens. What are we supposed to do.

All these companies are getting goverment help to save their butts because they made bad decisions to give people home loans and what not and now they are scrambling to break even. And in the meanwhile the "good consumers" are getting screwed in the end.

Who's pockets are these payments going in? If anyone can help us we would all really appreciate any help we could get.

Here's another way to look at it.

AUTHOR: Nikki - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 19, 2009

Aspire is not closing your husband's account to punish him. Aspire is closing accounts because it can no longer be in the business of extending credit. That doesn't mean you don't still owe them for the credit they did extend to you.

Say you know someone that you were able to borrow money from. You always pay them back, ontime, at the terms of the loans. One day, that person says to you, "Look, I am in a financial harship and I can no longer loan you any more money." Do you say to that person, "Well, since you can't loan me anymore money, I shouldn't have to pay you back for the last loan."? Of course not. That's ridiculous.

I don't have an Aspire card, but I can imagine this same scenario happening over and over again in the near future.

This Is dirty

AUTHOR: Charles - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 03, 2009

This Is dirty to close someones account which Is In good standing, then they allowed to charge you interest.

This Is dirty pool to treat a good standing custormer that way. And to cause people all this inconvenience for no reason.

Aspire, plains commerce bank, tribute card salute card are all scams.

How do they accept people to rebuild there credit If they just close there accounts for no reason.

All these credit card programs to help you rebuild your credit are fraud.

They take all the money they can from people, then they close there account for no reason It makes perfect sense why they are closing there account.

They got everyones money.

CREDIT CARD PROGRAMS ARE DISCONTINUED ALL OF THE TIME.

AUTHOR: Sherri - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 13, 2008

If you read the disclosures that came with your card, it is in black and white. For whatever reason, Compucredit discontinued several subprime cards, which they are legally entitled to do. If the prime cards are cutting credit lines and doing account closures, you can imagine how scared the subprime card issuers must be.

I'm sorry this happened to your husband, but unfortunately, they were well within their legal rights.

This is one bad company!

AUTHOR: Pardel - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 13, 2008

After reading the lawsuit, posted by Robert, filed by the FTC against Jefferson Capitol and Compucredit (Aspire credit card) it appears the Aspire Credit Card was nothing put a scam of a junk debt buyer to get debtors with un-collectible debts (debt over the Statue of Limitations, debt to old to be reported on the debtors credit report, ect ) to pay the charged-off debts. Looks like your lucky they are cancelling your account.

Unfortunately the debtors have been tricked into re-activating old debts and have now restarted the clock. So any old debts transferred to the Aspire card is once again collectible.

Note: (foot notes from suit file by FTC)

**CompuCredit and Jefferson Capital have marketed the Majestic Visa credit card and/or other financial products through a unified marketing program or programs that relied on the interrelationship between the companies. CompuCredit's Aspire Visa program, as well as other programs in which CompuCredit marketed high-fee credit cards, also depended on the interrelationship between CompuCredit and Jefferson Capital, with Jefferson Capital playing an integral role in collecting the charged-off receivables (often including assessed fees) that CompuCredit generated through its Aspire Visa cards.**

**CompuCredit's credit card business consists principally of marketing, lending, servicing and debt collection activities. Through contractual arrangements with various banks, CompuCredit has marketed subprime credit cards to
consumers under multiple brand names, including but not limited to Aspire, Aspire A Mas, FreedomCard, Tribute, Imagine, Majestic, Aspen, Emerge and Fingerhut Credit Advantage. The banks with which CompuCredit has contracted to market these cards include but are not limited to Columbus Bank & Trust Company (CB&T), which has issued a significant number of CompuCredit's subprime cards.**

**Jefferson Capital and CompuCredit also have led consumers to believe that by accepting the Majestic Visa card offer, their formerly charged-off debt would be satisfied and they would be building new credit. In fact, for a significant period of time, the Majestic Visa program itself has been a debt collection device, not new credit.**

**Since approximately 2004, CompuCredit has marketed Visa credit cards to consumers with unpaid debts that have been charged off by prior creditors, including debts that were no longer subject to suit under the applicable statute of limitations and debts that were no longer being reported by consumer reporting agencies because they were outside the seven-year limitation period set forth in Section 605 of the FCRA, 15 U.S.C. 1681c.**

Bottom line this card was nothing but a scam!

Where's the rip off?

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, December 12, 2008

Companies have the right to close accounts. If they closed the account keep making payments and pay them off per the terms of the disclosure.
After all you barrowed the money so why do you feel it's a rip off to pay it back?

The positive side of this is that you will have less debt.
