I moved to Tulsa in February, 2011 and signed up for the tanning package at At the Beach Tanning in Tulsa.  Unfortunately, I became unemployed in May of 2011, and notified ATB of my status at that time.  I was told by the staff that I would not need to do anything else unless I moved.  They continued to pull my monthly fee.   After not being able to find work I notified ATB that my status had not changed and to not charge my account as I would have to move (June 2011).  I contacted by phone the OKC office and was told that I would need to fill out a form, send new lease info as per their contract.  I then received a letter with all kinds of "our practices are approved by the Colorado Attorney General's Office", etc..  I then wrote a letter, filled out/faxed the form as requested.  They continued to pull the monthly fee from my bank account.  Then I refaxed the letter with my new drivers license and voter registration card.  Since I was now essentially homeless, I did not have a utility bill or lease or anything else in the state I was living and looking for work.  I called ATB and explained this to them, and they sent me an email saying they would 'suspend the withdrawls' until I was able to send them a utility bill or lease stating my new address.  Once again, I informed them I was unemployed, homeless and unable to provide more than a mailing address where I picked up mail.

At that point, I filed the information with the Colorado AG office (as every collection letter I received had that information on it). The AG office was perplexed as to why the complaint was filed with them and referred me to local attorney for unfair credit practices.   The collection letters continued- now stating I owed for the whole year.  I sent the relocation fee to the OKC office and it was returned, I sent the fee to the Colorado office and it was returned.  ATB now states that the entire year amount is due.  So much for trying to do the right thing-at finally being able to send in the relocation fee.  My advice is to not talk to any of these people.  Get every conversation in writing.  Send information only return receipt certified mail.  Do not trust anything they say, and never sign a contract of any kind with them.
