Back in April I moved to a new house, AT&T was scheduled to install internet into my new home on my only day off, but they changed the date without informing me. When I called to complain I got hung up on multiple times, once by a supervisor. Eventually I spoke to a manager that appologized and promised to "take care of" my last bill. Instead I have been handed over to a collection agency.

Today I called to complain about the bill not being forgiven as I was told and was hung up on again. On the second call I spoke to a very rude woman claiming to be a supervisor who informed me that I had been offered a free month to stay on, and nothing else. This is a lie. I may have been offered a free month to stay on at some point, though I don't recall. What I know for sure is being told that I would be comped my previous bill because of their failure to contact me prior to changing the scheduled day, and for the day off of work I was forced to take to have the instalation done.

Either they failed to note that I was offered my last month being comped, or they deliberatly lied to me. Either way I now have a mark on my credit score and am being forced to pay for something that I'm not supposed to.

You apparently attach some importance to your credit report. You knew there was this final bill and you also knew the due date. Since you know it's YOUR account and ultimately you are on the hook for said bill, one would think you would have paid that bill on the last day rather than let it lapse instead of fighting with them. The bottom line here is its YOUR account and the bill was not paid on time. Whether or not they said they would pay it is not an issue. If it looked like they weren't going to pay it, then YOU pay it to save your payment record. Oh, by the way, I don't work for them!
