After reading the astronomical amount of complaints on this website I came across something interesting. It seems that AT&T likes to charge it's customers "wages" for collection action. I was wondering why my final bill from previous service 2 years ago had more than doubled after I refused to pay them for many of the reasons that people have complained about on this website. My final bill (which did include early termination fees...)from AT&T after my service had been shut off due to my refusal to pay was $554.83.

Some months later I recieved a collection notice from a collection agency by the name of Risk Management Alternatives, Inc. that stated that my account balance from AT&T was $1278.48!!!! This is more than double the original amount I actually owed them, try $720.65 difference!

I then wrote the collection agency a letter disputing this amount due requesting a detailed billing statement showing proof of why I owed more than double the original amount. In fact, I wrote them several times over and have never heard back from them, even though by law they have to respond within 30 days of recieving a dispute. Since this time I have not recieved anymore collection notices from them but I am dead sure that they still have it on record that I owe them $1275.48. Just recently my brother-in-law had his AT&T phone line sent to collections and the very same thing happened to him, his bill more than doubled from the final bill from AT&T!

I unfortunately am no stranger to collection agencies and have never ever seen my amounts due more than double or come even close, all I have seen is very small fees added on! Now, that I am having so many ignorant errors and attitudes from AT&T under my sister-in-laws account I am in the process of turning all of my innacurate statements, logs of phone call converstaions with customer service, calling plan regional maps and my final bill and collection bill over to the FCC, Attorney General Consumer Protection Division and my local news stations here in Las Vegas for an investigative report to let the public know the fraudulant scam AT&T truly is!

My advice to everyone out there with a problem with AT&T is to keep good records and do the very same. I have actually found that if you threaten AT&T reps with the FCC and such,it makes them more compliant in fixing THEIR errors! Goodluck all!
