I really should have researched Auto Accpetance before going in to this, but a little late now.  I was car shopping about 3 years ago. Our current vehicle was braking down and of course we were going to financial hardship. I recvied a call from Ron Tonkin saying they can help me even if my credit wasnt the best. So of course i was excited and went to go visit them, alone. BIG MISTAKe. They see a lady and probably thought YES! She is niave enough we can convince here to buy anything for any price considering, yes i was a little desperate and now yes looking back i feel like what an idiot i was to believe all the crap they told me. Anyway the sales guy showed me a few cars, nothing to exciting he said there was only a few cars with this type of program. He showed me a 00 ford explorer, i asked detail...first thing i asked was the gas mileage..he said o this isnt too bad. He said 21mph...i thought o thats not bad at all...what an idiot! its a V8! of course its wont be 21 mph..then he took me for a test drive..it drove fine a little loud but no biggy. He said we will keep the radio off to listen for any "car noises" ya sure come to find late the radio light didnt work! thats why he didnt turn it on.... then for the financial part...told them i can pay around 200 a month...ya the make the payment 290..nice..then they took about 1000 down. I kept asking what the price of the explorer was. They kept beating around the bush..avoiding the question all together. Turns out I am paying a ridiculous 9000.00 for a 00 ford explorer with over 100k miles! And did you know?! whoever goes thru this program they pay and addional 2000.00 to the finance companies to finance them?!!! Wow if thats not getting screwed when youare already down i dont know what is!!! so dumb enuf to sign papers...i signed them not taking warrently cuz it was a ridiculous 50 dollars a month. I drive off all hunky dorey, and them laughing there asses off at me and i imagine them saying yup another one gest screwed with out even knowing it and we earn a nice commision for it. sucker! A few week later i notice the gas mileage is NOT 21mph its 12mph..i called Floyd the sales gusy tell him he pretty much lied to me, he said o sorry i didnt know....Sure... then he said ok we can switch it out...ya right considering there was only certain vehicle with in this prgram. Ya that didnt work. So whatever time goes on....6months later the explorer starting breaking down! I callled Floyd again, he basically said SOL. you can trade it in. but ya being already upside down i would need to come up witha big down payment. i figure now yes Ron Tonkin screwed me over...and kicked me when i was already down.... This Ford Exploere has been in the shop 5 times with 4 different mechanics and neither of them can figure out the heck is wrong with the vehicle. On top of paying 300 a month for a 00 ford explorer with horrible gas mileage thier are bills for mechanics everyother month. They say they are helping you by getting a loan with 30% int rate and about 5000 above kelly blue book price....REALLY?! does that sound like that will be hleping you in anyway but screwing you over and them making a nice commision from a person who is desperate and feels like there is no other choice....TRUST ME. there are other places you can turn to. Now im stuck with an old explorer that is constantly breaking down paying 300 a month and still 4k to pay on....ya live and learn.

DO NOT GO TO RON TONKIN...NOT HONEST PEOPLE, AT ALL- ITS ALL ABOUT " HOW BIG OF A COMMISION CHECK CAN I GET" THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF FOLKS WHEN THEY CAN LEAST AFFORD IT

You can fix it now

Yes, you were ripped off. But as pointed out before, you allowed them to do it by not walking away from the deal.

Having said that, you can fix this situation now.

1) The car probably has too many miles to refinance at this point. But, that doesn't prevent you from accelerating the payment so you pay less interest overall. The goal is to get the car to its actual value so you can sell the vehicle and pay it off. You can get the extra funds by selling off things around the house and working an extra job. Do anything to get that principal balance paid down to what the vehicle is worth.

2) In the meantime, take it to a local good mechanic to be fixed. For you to be paying on repairs every month means that whoever you are using now to do the repairs is not doing their job.

3) If your payments have been on time and if the lender has been reporting the payments to the CRA's, then the next time you go to buy a vehicle, go to a credit union. Line up your financing before you go shopping for a vehicle.

That way you won't get ripped off with your financing on your next purchase. Don't allow the car dealership to finance you because all car dealerships make money on the financing. In fact, they make more money in the financing department then they do selling the vehicle! They try to add a bunch of bogus add on's too: extended warranty's that have no value, car rust proofing etc. If you go to a CU, you avoid all that baloney. The only way to make sure you get a fair deal on your financing is to have it done by a legtimate third party like a credit union. This way the F&I guy at the dealership can't take advantage of you. And if he tries to, walk away without signing the contract.

Yep, you are in a bad deal now, but you can turn it around.

Clear it up a bit....

Some how i think you do work for them or maybe a general salesman yourself.....To clear it up, i didnt know it was a v8 and believed him when he did say it was 21mph, thinking the sales man knows the vehicles he is selling. Then they didnt tell me what the price was until all was said and done. Finally yes i probably do have some buyers remorse but is it really right of them to sell a vehicle that breaks down within the first 6mos and being lied to about one of the most important things, mph, when the gas prices are so high.  I have spoken to the sales man several times after, thats how i found out all the other info, like how they tack on $2000 on top of the sales price to pay the financial institutions. Anyway Yes I know I do sound niave but i guess thats how you learn, from experience. Regardless, it just shows how dishonest some people can be to benefit themselves.

But In The End YOU Rewarded Them!

AUTHOR: Jim - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, November 26, 2013

You admitted you knew a V-8 would not get the gas mileage of a 6 or 4...but you bought the car anyway.  You also admitted here you felt apprehensive about the price, the fact they would not level with you regarding that price, but you bought the car anyway.  Additionally, you indicated you knew the interest rate was higher than you expected, but you bought the car anyway.  Finally, you say the payment was higher than what you wanted to pay, but you bought the car anyway.  Nobody forced you into this deal...YOU agreed to each and every aspect of it. Oh...did I say "buyer's remorse"?  And no, I don't work for them!
