Auto Club South "Optional" Medical Rider not optional Tampa Florida

I was notified that my AAA membership had been renewed automatically, with the dues charged to my credit card. That's find; we've been doing it that way for years.

But this time there was an additional charge: $12 for a medical rider.

Sneaky. I wonder how many people don't bother to look closely at the statement and don't notice this extra charge.

I have no use for the medical rider. It covers nothing not alreasdy coverd by my insurance.

So I called Auto Club South, punched 1, punched 2, etc. and waited and waited ...

And finally got a representative who said she couldn't remove the $12 charge.

All she could do, she said, was cancel the entire charge and send me a bill.

So the "optional" charge is "optional" only if you choose not to use the automatic renewal.
