I opened a checking account online with Bank of the Sierra.  Shortly after opening the account, I made a mistake while balancing my checking register and could not reconcile my account. I attempted to call the bank and was told I have to send an email to online banking because I opened the account online.  Ultimately, the representative refused to help me over the telephone.

I sent an email to Bank of the Sierra requesting a telephone call because I did not feel the internet was a secure method of communication to discuss the matter.  A week went by and I never received a call.

While I was waiting for Bank of the Sierra to call back from, several items were paid by the bank and overdraft fees in the amount of $27.00 for each item paid.  I was completely unaware of the overdraft charges and continued to use my ATM card for purchases.  After a week of unknowingly being overdrawn, I received a letter indicating that 2 items had been paid by Bank of the Sierra and my account was overdrawn by $169.29.

WHen I received the overdraft notice in the mail, I called Bank of the Sierra for support and when I called a second time, I WAS NOT GIVEN TELEPHONE SUPPORT.  I was told by the bank representative that "because I opened the account online, the only means of support I have is email."  I logged on to the Bank of the Sierra website and logged into my account to find that 7 items had been paid by the bank bringing my account to a negative balance of $61.29.  In addition to the negative balance of $61.29, there was an overdraft charge in the amount of $189.00 for the seven paid items.  My balance was now in the negative by $250.29.

The bank could have sent an email notice to me when the first overdraft charge had occured.  But rather than sending me notice the quick way, the bank typed up a letter and mailed it via USPS, which arrived a week after the first overdraft had occured.  BANK OF THE SIERRA DOES NOT PROVIDE BANKING SUPPORT TO ONLINE BANKING CUSTOMERS WHEN NEEDED!!!

I do NOT recommend banking with Bank of the Sierra!!!
