Bennett Hirschhorn makes a tidy little bit of profit renting out his dilapidated apartments and houses to poor college students, not repairing any issues or doing regular maintenance, and charging them with fees when they move out for “damage” the apartment already had. A regular property company would insist upon a walkthrough to make sure these damage charges would be known from the beginning, but as Bennett is a lawyer he can just threaten a lawsuit to extort people to pay up months after they’ve left.

The apartments are in terrible condition. Ours was disgusting upon move-in (no one cleaned it) and despite us cleaning it when we left we were still charged an outrageous cleaning fee.

He likes to hire dredges to perform the maintenance and yard work. Our leaves went unraked and the yard untended for at least six months starting around the fall, completely pissing off our neighbors who were right in their annoyance of wanting a tidy block.

One former resident told me about their heater being broken the entirety of winter, another former resident was threatened with a lawsuit over a cracked kitchen range that was broken (and proven to be so) before move in. A third resident has told me about mice in their apartment.
