I had the usual experience at Bernard Haldane Associates. The initial interview -- in my case with JACK JOHNSTON, Senior Consultant (if you're reading this Jack, consider this your well-earned five minutes of fame) was the standard "you're wonderful, we can make you a star."

Then came the 2nd interview with my husband. That was when JACK JOHNSTON gave us the hard sell, culminating in his invitation for us to drop $5,000+ on the spot, via a credit card. We hesitated. He scoffed: "you can pay it back at $100/month -- and since you'll be getting a job within at least two months, you'll probably be able to pay it back almost immediately," said Mr. JACK JOHNSTON. "We've had people in here getting $25,000 signing bonuses, stock options, you name it ..."

JACK JOHNSTON got mad when we said we never sign anything without a 24-hour sleep on it, and pointed out that that kind of attitude affects a person's marketability. "What if we had a fantastic six-figure income job for you and you had to make up your mind on the spot?" he asked. "You need to be decisive. Or as far as I'm concerned, I'm ready to close your file."

Consider it closed, JACK JOHNSTON.
