This family is just another perfect example of folks with money who are miserable. They sent their drug addicted son for help at a Malibu Rehab where I worked as a contractor with at the time.
I was their saving grace and an "angel" sent to help them in the beginning. Before it was over with, it was all my fault that their LOSER son was a drug addict, even though he is 33 years old and has never had a job...outside of Daddy's company!
He was abusive to the staff and other patients and eventually was thrown out for his disruptive behavior.He goes home and relapses before he crossed the threshold.
Who do they call? You guessed it, me, their saving grace. I fly to Atlanta and intervene, get him on a plane, and take him back to rehab.
On his 2nd day he is busted with an assortment of illegal drugs in his posession, after he tried to get another patient high. I get him reinstated and after only 2 more days he is booted once again for making physical threats against staff and clients.
Dad owes me $10,000 for my services and refuses to pay me. I am now suing him and his wife after they stopped payment on a check for part of the fee. He blames the fact that his son is unsuccessful on me. Go figure?
Not only that, but now I have been threatened by him and his wife, as well as Anthony. They tell me bad things are going to happen to me if I don't leave them alone.
This guy's company is valued at $78 million dollars and he can't pay the one person who helped them.
If only parents would realize that money is not what their kids need. What they need is love and attention. In this case Dad went so far as to hire a private investigator to follow Anthony around when he was a teenager and now wonders why his son doesn't trust him.
It is a very sad commentary on our priorities, or lack of them in this case.
Pathetic is the only word that seems to fit...

So, you're employed as a contractor through Malibu Rehab and you violated HIPAA just to complain about the family? You're lucky your patient and his family decide to sue because of your stupidity.

YOU ARE CORRECT!!!!!! This is the standard response from parents who do not wish to take responsibility. They would rather BLAME ANYONE ELSE then admit that they sucked as both humans AND parents. One doesnt make 78 mil by playing nice. Much has to be sacraficed in order to be THAT succesfull. So their child being on drugs is a DIRECT result of the lack of attention that these parents allowed to happen.
I myself have had to be an "angel" for a few people. I had to help some very bad people. People who would shank you as soon as blink at you their addiction was so bad. But with work and effort on THEIR part they were able to get and stay clean. All I was, was the big guy who wouldnt let them go get drugs and I was the sounding board for when life threw them curves that could potentially cause them to relapse.
If the kid doesnt want help, no amount of therapy OR love is going to change that. This kid is NOT READY to give up his crutch. Until the parents realize that its THEIR child who is relapsing BECAUSE something is missing in his life, they will continue to have these problem.
I wish you all the luck that the universe can give you. People like this kid parents truly sicken me. I hope and hope some more that not only do you get back what is owed to you, but that the judge slaps them with some punative damages in order to teach them a lesson. Maybe dropping a mil or two from their "Oh SO succesful" company MIGHT make them OPEN THEIR EYES!!!!
Eventually this kid is going to go too far and something bad is going to happen to him. Be it from other users or from himself.
