6 months ago I purchased a laptop bundle deal at Best Buy. Included in the bundle was 6 months free anti-virus protection, and I was told to pick from 2 different kinds. I told the sales associate "no thanks" because I didn't plan on renewing the subscription after the 6 months was up. He said to just pick one (there were 2), because it was included in the bundle, and he had to ring one through to get the sale price on the laptop. So I picked one, after he assured me it would just run out after 6 months, and after all, it was free. Then, when it came time to pay, I was told I needed to give them my credit card information. I asked why, because I wanted to pay in cash, and was told it was for "security reasons". I said I would rather not, as I only had a debit card, and it was out in the car. They said they couldn't sell me the laptop without it, so I went and got it. I was assured that no charges would be made to my card, and that it was just for their records. The next day I tried to install my "free" 6 months of anti-virus, only to find that it wasn't even compatible with my computer. Then it wouldn't let me completely uninstall it, either. It's called WebRoot. I didn't think much of it, seeing as WebRoot never asked for my credit card info. 6 months later I saw a charge of $42.50 to my bank account from Best Buy in Kingston, MA, where I'd purchased my laptop. When I went into customer service, the girl knew the exact amount I was out of without even looking anything up. This must happen all the time! I was told to call WebRoot, even though the money was taken by Best Buy. I asked her to give me a number, and it was to Geek Squad. When I called them they tried to sell me more anti-virus software! After a while, they agreed to credit my account with a refund, which will take a few days to credit my account. I am especially pissed because I am between jobs, and am left with only $4 to my name until this money is returned to me. I just started a new job after being unemployed for 2 months, and this was all the money I had until I get paid in a couple of weeks. I was unable to pay my phone bill because of this. This is fraud!
