First of all, Best Buy and Geek Squad promise service that is convenient for you. Yeah, right.
I bought a refrigerator in September 2011. Last Sunday (June 24, 2012) I noticed my refrigerator was not just hot, but burning hot. I called Best Buy and they couldn't get someone out until Wednesday!! I told them I was concerned about a fire and still, nope, not till Wednesday. There is a cardboard cover on the back the closes off the electricals, and that was burning hot to my touch. Cardboard. I had to call a 24 hour service to come out and fix the refrigerator ( the fan went out) because of my fear of fire (I could have lost all my food as well waiting for Wednesday, but the potential of fire was more of a concern). $247.95 to fix a $400.00 refrigerator that was only 9 months old. I called Best Buy today (Tuesday, June 26, 2012) to get a refund and they give me this B.S. about how I invalidated my warranty by getting an outside person to fix it. Even though I tried to get Best Buy to fix it! That's how this company gets out of their warranties, delay service so you have to go somewhere else and then you invalidate your warranty. It was a Catch-22. I will never buy another thing from them, ever. Not to mention that a refrigerator that is only 9 months old blows its fan?!

Every manmade item on the planet breaks sooner or later. Yours was sooner. Big deal. That's what warranties are for. No company is sitting around twidling their thumbs waiting for your call so they have something to do. If you're lucky, for an extra fee an expedited service is sometimes available. A cooler or two with ice would have kept the items cold for a few days. Incidentally, the fridge may have been very hot to the touch, but no where near a combustible temperature. The fan is to cool the compressor and prevent it from failing. The compressor also has a thermo protection circuit.
So what company/manufacturer will you be using next that has a different policy with items that never break with service that will be at your house within the hour for no fee? Please let everyone know! If you fail to do so, we'll know where the real problem lies.
If the fear of a fire was eminent, why wouldn't you simply unplug the refrigerator??? Were you more concerned about the icecream melting and your milk curdling more than the house burning down? Unbelievable!

You could have unplugged the refrigerator to prevent the possibility of a fire. Then you could have requested warranty service by contacting the manufacturer instead of Best Buy.
