I purchased a computer from Best Buy financed thru citibank. They unilateally increased the momthly payment by $1. We never received notification since we moved. They proceeded to charge a late fee of $40. Never new this was going on until they finally sent a letter we received saying we owed them over $400 in late fees for the $6 they increased the pahyment buy.

We have never been late in making our payments before this ripoff. i never knew a retailer could unilaterally increase their prices after purchase. We have tried to get resolution but they have refused. This is my second bad experience with this company and i will never go into one of their stores again. I will be filing with the appropriate (ugh) government agency.

Are you really that uneducated.

In what finance or economic class did you learn that changing the MINIMUM payment on a credit card bill was a unilateral increase in the price of an item?

I would find an attorney and go after what ever school taught you this for the poor education you received.

Now, this wasn't your only economic "math" issue.  You stated they charged you a $40 late fee, and you had $400 in late fees for the $6 increase.  However, if it only increased a $1 that would only be 6 month's worth of payments....last time I checked 6 x $40 is $240...a bit short of $400.

As for notification, if you moved did you change your address?  When you didn't get your statement did you call them?  Did you go online to see what is up?  Better yet, did you sign up for electronic statements and get them delivered to your e-mail address?  Or did you figure that you will just pay what ever you want and it has to be right.

By the way they have a right to change the MINIMUM payment required as long as they notify you.  Which if you read your statements you would have seen this. Would you be complaining if the minimum payment went down?  There is actually no law or regulation that says you only have to pay the minimum.  You are free to pay as much as you want as long as it is AT LEAST the minimum required.
