I thought I was buying a software product called "Computer Tune Up", but it turned out to be a service where you allow some tech, somewhere in the world to remote into your computer and poke around trying to speed things up for you. This was NOT going to happen! I would neither allow this nor do I need this service. When I realized what happened I immediately contacted the third party payment processor who started a case. I very concise ticket was created about what had happened and included the important fact that I had NOT and was not going to use the service. However, the nice folks at the payment processor told me that Bitdefender won’t allow them to process refunds and I would have to wait for Bitdefender to contact me, but also told me that I should call Bitdefender directly. When I called bit defender, after waiting 20 minutes on hold, the customer support person told me that the sales department would have to handle and approve the request. They said that they only communicate via email and I would get a response in 24 to 48 hours. Well sure enough I got an email two days later from the sales department saying exactly this “Dear Nate Hartman, Thank you for your patience. We hope this email finds you well. We wanted to let you know that your request, ticket no: xxxxxx is currently being reviewed and you will receive a response as soon as possible. Have a nice day! Best Regards, Bitdefender Customer Care Team”. E.g. The Run Around.

I paid for it using a PayPal credit card and have now filed a case with PayPal. Apparently the merchant now had ten days to respond to PayPal before they do anything. Hopefully I will get my stupid $69.99 back some day! – I never, ever write things like this, but I hope that someone reads this and comes to the same conclusion that I have which is this is a very poor business practice and a crummy way to treat customers. For me, any company that does this will never again get any of my business.
