I reecently received a letter telling me I was already approved for vehicle financing.  The letter said I should come in and pick out the vehicle of my choice and I could be driving it in less than 24 hours.

I was contacted by phone and decided to go have a look.  I saw on the dealers website that they had a nice used Toyota Tacoma Pickup that interested me.  It was 12 years old and had 124,000 miles on it but I still was interested.  The listed price was $9,995.  A little high I thought for a 12 year old truck, but I thought I would check it out.

I went to drive it and it ran pretty good.  We sat down to deal.  After 3 trips back and forth form the business manager we struck a deal...or so I thought.

After waiting around for 2 hours....just seconds from being handed the keys to my new ride I was told..."We made a mistake, and the price was off by $2,500 on the truck I was buying."  I though great!  They actually are dropping the price down to what the blue book value was....Around $7,000.  No they said the $9995 was $2,500 too low.  So there is no way we can get you to the payment you want so there is no deal.  This was after we shook hands and was told congrats...you just bought a truck!

I am thinking of contacting a lawyer to see if they have to sell me the truck for what was agreed upon.  I don't know.

Either way, don't ever try to deal with these crooks.

You haven't bought anything until you've signed a purchase contract.   A salesman can tell you that he'll sell you a truck for 99 cents, but unless you and the dealership sign a contract to that effect, there is no deal.

Personally, I think they did you a huge favor.    A 12 year old Tacoma is not worth anywhere near $10K.   It looks like they stopped you from ripping yourself off.   You should thank them.

You have a good thought, but not quite right.   My credit is just fine.   It just so happens that this car dealer is the lowest of the low!  I just happened to find a truck that I liked.  I still have the truck and I still love it.  Even though I have put nearly $4,000 into it since buying it from these crooks.  That's even with a so-called extended piece of crap warranty that never seems to cover anyting that is broken.  I have put a entire new a/c system and a new heater core, radiator, battery, valve cover and intake gaskets as well as many of minor repairs.  I will keep the truck because I basically have rebuilt the entire truck with new parts.  As far a Brenner goes.....They can suck my a$$....I will make sure that anyone even considering a vehicle purchase will never go in their direction.

Thanks again for your idea of why they suck so bad!

Sincerely.

What really took place

AUTHOR: Scott - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, November 27, 2011

I'm making some assumptions here but I'll bet I'm closer to the truth than anything that has been posted so far.

Buyer "A" has marginal credit. Somehow he gets a direct mail piece claiming he is pre-approved for an auto loan. The devil is in the details. Somewhere on that direct mail piece is a disclaimer that deals with price, down payment, credit etc..

Buy "A" gets all excited and heads to the dealership. He picks out a vehicle and negotiates in good faith. But, buyer "A" has marginal credit and the only financing they can get for him is sub-prime. Sub-prime financing does not give the dealer the full price of the deal. The sub-prime company only gives a percentage of the total dollar amount of the deal. At $9,995 the dealer is not getting enough to cover his cost and make a profit. The dealer's only choice at that point is to raise the price of the vehicle so that his percentage works out.

Update

AUTHOR: Tony HJippensteel - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, November 27, 2011

Good Day All!

It's been a while since I posted on here about Brenner Nissan.  I just recently got a letterfrom them telling me that it has been 2 years since I bought my Toyota truck from them and that it has some equity in the vehicle and I should consider coming in to possibly buy another vehicle.

I though to myself....yeah right!  After my paast experience with them there was no way I was going back to give them anymore business!

So a few days later I just happened to have a problem with my truck starting.  I went to Autozone and had the battery checked and was told there were a few bad cells and it needed replaced.

Now here comes the best part....When I purchased the truck Brenner installed a brand new 84month Nissan battery in the truck.  It says right on the battery that if anything goes wrong within the first 24 months it will be replaced free of charge.  Anything after that it would be replaced, but it will be prorated.

I also purchased an extended warranty that was about to expire so I thought I better get it taken care of right away.

I called Brenner and talked to the service manager and he told me that because I didn't have the original receipt for the battery that there was nothing he could do for me.  I told him that the reason I didn't have a receipt is because I didn't personally buy the battery....you installed it when I purchased the vehicle.  Well because they keep such horrible records at this dealership they had no record of when it was installed.  This was a lie!  As we all know, anytime a mechanic works on a vehicle they clock in and manage all parts and labor to keep track of expenses.

Regardless, even if they had no record, it said right on the battery that it was a Nissan battery, it also said when it was installed so why was a receipt even necessary?

This was just there way of getting out of having to give me another battery.I even thought to myself.....If they actually help me out and fix my battery I was going to consider giving them a second chance and maybe look at another vehicle.  Well, I think we can all say that will never happen!

These crooks and liars will never change. And again, if anyone reads this and still buys from these jerks do yourself another favor....DO NOT BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!  It's not worth the paper it is written on.  Everything that went wrong with my truck during the first 2 years mysteriously was NOT coverev by the warranty contract.  Funny how that works.  Just another way for Brenner Nissan to rip you off!

Come to think of it....

It just hit me!  Now I know how their numbers get off so bad.

When I took made trade vehicle in to deal, I was told a price it was worth.  I said I would like to get more for it.  I was showed 3 different examples of what my trade was selling for at different auctions.  When looking closely, I discovered they were pricing a vehicle with a 4 cyl. engine, but mine had a V6.  Obviously worth more than a 4 cyl. right?

Then The new truck I was buying was advertised as having an automatic transmission.  I actuality it had a 5-speed.

So they will deflate the value of your car, and inflate the value of what they are selling you.  An easy way to skew the numbers without having anyone notice.

Look at the description of truck....It says "4 speed AUTOMATIC transmission." Not...

How about a 5 speed manual?

I know, just an honest mistake right?  It just seems to be ALOT of "honest" mistakes made by Brenner Nissan.

Really

AUTHOR: Paknightdriver - (U.S.A.)

David:

If you really want to know what kind of company you are associated with just search Caribbean Cruise Lines on the website and enjoy reading.

As far as you post regarding the cost of the truck again.  If you consider 3 plastic tie straps to hold the bumper on the front of the truck to be a major expense, I fell sorry for you.

I agree, you did give me a $20 gas card.  But, you are still ahead of the game because you never filled the gas tank when I origonally purchased the vehicle.

I guess my biggest complaint with your dealership is the disorganization you have displayed on numersous occasions now.

The last being on Christmas Eve.  If you remember you called and told me "We need you to sign 1 paper that we forgot."  I agreed to come in and told you I didn't have alot of time and we needed to make it quick.  You knew I was coming in, yet when I got there you weren't prepared.

I was then told that instead of having to just sign 1 paper...The entire paperwork needed to be redone because another mistake was made.  I sat waiting for nearly 2 hours until you all could get this straightened out.  Then when I threatened to leave miraculously the paperwork was done.  It was then that I "asked" for the gas card.  It was not offered to me.  But to me, wasting 2 hours of my time and screwing up my plans with my family on Christmas was a small price to pay by giving me a $20 gas card.

David, I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.  All I can say is that the 18 other vehicles that I have purchased from other dealers in the past, I have never had the experience that I did at Brenner Nissan.

Now that I have made all the necassary repairs to the truck that you supposedly said you all did, I really do like my truck.  Unfortunately I guess I will not take you up on the free lifetime inspections offered by your dealership because I feel it would be better to go elsewhere and pay for it.

p.s. Do you have any idea where the jack handle is for the truck?  Or can i get one? It's a shame I have a spare tire under the truck that I have no way of removing in case I get a flat tire.

Our side of an unfair evaluation

AUTHOR: Brenner Nissan - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 25, 2010

Mr. Hippensteel applied for an auto loan online. He was approved for an auto loan through one of our credit lenders.  We quoted him numbers based upon the cost of a vehicle on that particular lenders computer system.  However, that system did not take in account the reconditioning cost of the repairs we had already done to the vehicle.  The salesperson who was not aware of the miscalculation reviewed the payments as proposed in the lenders system with the customer and they agreed to those numbers.  When the salesperson went to the sales manager to get final approval for the deal, the sales manager discovered the error and notified the customer and the salesperson of the system error. We explained to Mr. Hippensteel that we couldnt do the deal due to that circumstance.  He shook my hand and thanked us and told me to find him another truck for the agreed payment. The next morning, Mr. Hippensteel posted a negative review on Ripoffreport.com. After discussion with the General Sales Manager we called Mr. Hippensteel and notified him that we would do the deal at the original numbers and we would take the loss as it was not his mistake. We corrected the deal and delivered the vehicle and also gave him a free gas card and a voucher for a 3 day cruise for two. We have given this cruise vouchers to many of our customers over the past couple of years and have not had any complaints of the type stated by Mr. Hippensteel. Because Mr. Hippensteel does not like the cabin that is provided for free he blames the dealership for his dissatisfaction and makes it the responsibility of the dealership.

Oh well!

I thought I was being treated pretty well......NOT!  I will have to retract my previous apology letter about Brenner Nissan.

I really thought that I was "taken care of" because of my recent complaint about Brenner Nissan.

When I went back to the dealership to "renegotiate" the deal I was given a voucher for a free cruise.

Well.....After contacting the company to claim my "free" cruise I decided to pass on the "free" cruise.  It seems they needed approximately $400 bucks to secure a cabin to my liking?  Why you ask?  It seems the "bacis" cabins dont come with a TV.  It costs a $99 upgrade + a $150 charge to get a cabin with a TV.

Not suprising to me though....What do you expect?  A crappy auto dealership combined with a BOGUS "free" cruise promotion.

Oh well!  I do like my truck even though it came from a bullshit dealer with unscrupulous salepeople.

A letter of apology

AUTHOR: Paknightdriver - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 15, 2009

To Brenner Nissan and David Morrison:

I want to thank you for your kindness and generosity since my complaint.  Your dealership has gone above and beyond to rectify my problem.

I was called today and was told that Brenner Nissan would make good on the deal I previously agreed to even though they would be taking a loss on the deal.

I felt this was the proper thing to do regarding the current situation.

I truly apologize for the bad things I said about your company.  I was upset because I felt like I was taken advantage of.

When you were given the chance to correct the problem you did what was necessary to make me happy.

I appreciate the professional way you handled the situation and will look forward to dealing with you in the future.

Sincerely,

Tony Hippensteel

Yes that's the one.

AUTHOR: Paknightdriver - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 15, 2009

Yes.  That is the truck I wanted to buy.  The price was $9995.  Not only on the website but also the price written down when I agreed on the deal.  It was then told to me that the price was not correct and they were sorry but they couldn't sell it to me for that price.

Funny thing is that the truck is only valued at around $7,000 according to Kelly Blue book anyway.

I agree I have a case, but is it worth the hassle?

Thanks for your input.

If what you say is true...

If what you say about the "boost" on the price is true then it appears you have a valid case against Brenner

There is a 1997 Toyota long extended cab listed on their web site with a VIN of 4TAWN72N0VZ271457
It's listed at $9,995.
