I purchased an Ashdown ABM EVO III amp from a seller on ebay by the name of p-hill. His store is Butler Music located in Butler MO. He also has a website address of His personal phone number is:  (816) 456-4039. [continued below]....
.....  Jeff Sefton is selling Ashdown EVO III's for as much as 40% below MAP pricing. But Now I ask... is a deal really a deal if you don't get what you expected??  In my initial contact, I asked him if he were an Authorized dealer and he had told me he is. Searching the Ashdown website, I found that he is an authorized dealer. But he didn't even list it in his auction. I asked him to list this (so I had proof for warranty purposes) and I would buy one.

The amp arrived in a clean box, but when I opened it the bag was torn, the amp had numerous fingerprints on it and the screws looked like they were tampered with. So I go and plug it in and it did not sound good. I called the stored by phone and the owner Jeff, the owner says to me, no one else has complained. He said I could send it back but I would have to pay the shipping. OH GREAT! So I said I will try it out some more and hung up. I then played it for a while not liking what I was hearing and then went to bed. I got up the next morning and turned on the amp and it sounded the same for about a minute and then it started humming and I checked all the cords and everything was fine and all of a sudden, it made a loud ping noise and POP POP FLASH and OUT it went!! 

I called Jeff and he asks me what did I do to the amp. I said nothing other than turn it on and play it. He says I must have done something. Well long story short, he argued until I said I will file a Paypal claim and I hung up. He had told me that he would NOT take it back for return or exchange now that it was broken and that he doesn't RENT equipment, especially for free! I asked, RENT EQUIPMENT??? After he said this... I was dumb-founded! Lost in the midst of scam-land!!  I just paid hard earned cash for this head and he was leaving me to rot in the pits of h**l!! This seller is one nasty excuse for a human being!! 

A WORD OF WARNING! Do NOT buy from him, you WILL end up regretting it!!

Now, I believe he is selling refurbished goods and there really is NO WARRANTY on this product!!  I did contact the company and they want me to send the amp back to them for possible repair. But I said I am NOT wanting a product that I bought "AS-NEW" to immediately have to go into repair! I told them I want a brand NEW amp and they said they would have to repair it and if it couldn't be repaired, they would send me a new one. But most likely, the amp would be repaired. NO WAY!!! I want a BRAND NEW AMP or my money RETURNED!!!

butler music has been good to me!

i have taken the "biggest chance" in my first dealing with butler music by buying one of their "gamblers' special" ukuleles. as is, no returns. 

it was great. a little set up and i love it.

since then i have bought a few more items and was treated well. good service, nice people, good products and prices. i'm now confident to spend bigger bucks with butler music. 

i spent many years in retailing in my younger days. i learned that every so often, you get a real schmuck. i'm sure that butler music has had their share. i'm confident that if i ever have a problem with any purchase from butler music, they'll make things right.

I am a customer of Butler Music. I was searching for his store and saw this report, so i decided to comment. The man you are referring too, JEFF, the owner, is an INCREDIBLY HELPFUL MAN. When i was looking for an ukulele i called his store asking about different ukulele's, at first i did not buy one from him i just called and asked a million questions and he was very helpful in giving me answers and was not mad when i hung up without purchasing. When i decided which ukulele i was going to buy i looked online and saw that he had the best deal on it, so i called him back up. NOT ONLY DID HE GIVE ME A BETTER DEAL than anywhere else, THE SHIPPING WAS FAST and he was EXTREMELY HELPFUL. I have ordered TWO UKULELE'S, CASES, SUPPLIES, A HARD GUITAR CASE and a GUITAR from him, THEY ARE ALWAYS IN THE BEST CONDITION!!! One time one of my ukulele's buzzed a little and i was not happy with it so he HAPPILY ACCEPTED IT BACK and SENT ME A NEW ONE! He is EXTREMELY HELPFUL and a PLEASURE TO DO BUSINESS WITH. After I first ordered from him i called him several months later wanting to order again, and he even recognized my voice and i got a great deal as usual.

Butler Music Customer

I have purchased guitars and guitar equipment from Jeff at Butler Music for about six years.  He is the first place I call when looking for a certain brand or style.  I must have made over 40 purchases.  Every item was "as described" and most of the time better than described.

Jeff is a first rate seller.  I have gotten great prices on all purchases.  I also have no doubt that he would do what ever it takes to make the customer happy.  I plan to make many more purchases there online in the future.

Thank you for letting me rebut this report. My name is Jeff Sefton and I am the owner of Butler Music. We sell fine quality new and used musical gear from our retail store and on the internet. Now to rebut this report:

I sold this gentleman a brand new Ashdown EVO III amp and sent it to him in a sealed box direct from the factory that had never been opened and had never even been displayed on our sales floor. It was sold through ebay. A faew days after he got it he emailed us, all upset , saying it was broken. Because of the urgency of his email I tried to call him at the phone number I had for him ( I will not cause this buyer potential problems by making his name or phone number public knowledge) but got no answer. Since it was Sunday and our store was closed, and I like to provide the best service I can, I gave him my personal cell phone number ( which he was nice enough to post for the world to see on this and other websites) and he called me at home. He told me he played the amp for a couple days and wasn't thrilled with the sound and then the amp blew out totally. I told him he could send it back and we would either repair or replace it. I even said that if the amp was truly defective we would refund his return shipping. He immediately insisted on a refund only. The more I spoke to him the more obvious it became that he just needed it for a gig or a recording session and then wanted to return it. I have had that happen before and I don't like it but I have always given full refunds and I was even going to give this person a full refund. I just wanted him to pay the $18.00 or so it would cost to ship the head back to me. He then literally WENT NUTS, swearing at me and then hanging up. He then called our store Monday and started swearing at my store manager, threatening to do whatever he could to us to trash us, including filing this and many other made up reports at this and other sites.

He even called Ashdown direct to complain and actually spoke to the general manager of the entire company, who offered to replace the amp with a brand new amp instead of having it repaired because the buyer seemed so upset. The buyer then had the nerve to start swearing at the General Manager and trashing Ashdown's products, and then hung up on him.

Anyway, what ended up happening is that we took the item back and gave him a full refund , which we would have done in the first place whether the amp was broken or rented. When we got it back, SURPRISE, it worked perfectly and except for a few fingermarks was still brand new. We did not put it back up for sale as a new item , because when we sell something as NEW we only sell an unplayed, unused item. We are now selling it in our store as a demo if anyone is interested.

I want to thank this buyer for posting the nice photo of my store , but to correct him, my website is actually http://www.seftone.con not . I tried to get but it was taken. Unfortunately, my personal cell phone number that he posted to multiple sites is correct . It was also correct when the buyer stated that I am selling new Ashdown amps for as much as 40% below MAP pricing . Those of you who know the Ashdown line know it is an "A mark" line , meaning they sell to us dealers at half off. That's right, I sold this head to the guy or a 10% profit and he still trashed me. Oh well, what can you do?  All I can say is read his whole complaint again. He verifys that I am an authorized dealer, he shows that I have a true brick and mortar store (in business since 1987 and this is my first complaint on ripoff report) , he shows that I sell at amazingly low prices, and he sorta shows the address of my website where you can get some more neat stuff. He even shows my store phone number that you are welcome to call any weekday between 9:00 and 5:45 and get our best price on anything we sell.  The used amp part and the broken amp part are not true, as is any inferrence that we treated this customer anything but nicely and professionally.   

That is my rebuttal. We try to treat everyone nicely and fairly but sometimes things don't work out .  We also have some negative feedback on ebay under our seller name p-hill. I tried to respond to each of those so you can read them too. Yes, we did send out a couple guitars that broke (buyers were all refunded in full) , yes , we charged more for shipping than our actual cost on a shipment to France (we call that handling charges) , and yes, we are not perfect but we sure try.
