I never write reviews or submit complaints, but this incident with buyyourownmodem really got to me! I bought an ARRIS TG1682G modem from buyyourownmodem web site. I assumed it was NEW, since they did not state otherwise UP FRONT. Although the refurbished statement is there in the description ( it took a Google search to find it ), it is WELL hidden below an Amazon AD. Almost every web site that sells modems states UP FRONT the condition of an item as either NEW or REFURBISHED. Note also that at the time no other web site offered this particular model, an indication something was not quite right. I self installed it OK, but when I called Comcast to activate it, they claimed the modem belonged to Comcast, and charged me their usual monthly rental fee! Comcast proved to me they purchased the modem by sending me the purchase order from their data base with the purchase order number and the CMAC for the modem sent to me from buyyourownmodem. This information was conveyed to buyyourownmodem, with no avail . I also called the manufacturer ARRIS, on three different occasions and spoke to three different people, they all unequivocally stated that the TG1682G was proprietary to Comcast and sold to no one else! I finally bought an ARRIS SVG2482AC from another vendor, and attempted to return the TG1682G to buyyourownmodem modem. They gave me much hassle, making excuses like: possibly the modem went bad and Comcast auctioned it off to a third party vendor rather than repair it, BS, Comcast confirmed they don't do this. Finally, after weeks of hassle and emails and a lot more BS, they accepted the return of the modem and gave me a full refund + return postage. Think twice before you buy from these rip-off artists and save yourself a lot of aggravation.

COMCAST FINED FOR MAKING SUCH FALSE CLAIMS REGARDING EQUIPMENT OWNERSHIP

AUTHOR: John - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 30, 2018

Very sorry to hear that your having problems with Comcast.  Legally, they would need to provide the signed lease agreement that you agreed to with this modems serial number showing you they own this unit and that it was issued to you as a rental.  Unfortunately Comcast is running the scam... here and they have already been called out and fined by the FCC before for this and so I would bring this to their attention as they are already on probation for this business practice and I would advise them that if they are not going to provide the required documentation (that of course they don't have) then would have to file a claim with the FCC.  I wish there was something more we could do on our end and wish you the best in getting this matter resolved with the "Worst ranked business for customer service" in Comcast.

We do accept ALL returns in accordance with our return policy that was presented and accepted by you in order to complete checkout to your welcome to return the item accordingly simply provide a document from Comcast validating such a claim that they have ownership rights to this modem then we would be happy to issue a refund or replacement, but we don't believe there claim as ALL of their TG1682g units will have the "Xfinity" logo right on the front plate and based on the part number you provided and confirmed that was not issued to Comcast at any time as a rental as they don't use that part number but theirs will end with an "CT" at the end in which yours has a "TW" which means it was originally issued to Time Warner, not Comcast as it is really that simple to prove! This is why the first person who you confirm set it up for you had no problems and while it was working just fine for a while until they attacked you trying to claim it as a rental by using what is called "negative option billing" and Unfortunately they have been caught and fined before for this business practice and are currently on 5 year a compliance plan probation for making these very false claims as you can see given the links below.
