I took my wife to this so called lobster house this past Mother's Day, and my wife had clipped a coupon which entitled the customer to get 50% off of one dinner, if a regular priced dinner was also purchased. Well, we both ordered our dinners, ate an "figured" all was well for the day.

When it was time to pay, my wife politely mentioned the coupon she had, which was well within the time limit, and completely valid. The waiter states he'll be right back, and after about 10 minutes he returns and says that the coupons were a misunderstanding on their part! He then went on to say that several customers have presented this coupon, and they are only giving them $5.00 off of their meals instead!!!

I'm now thinking, what a rip off! So your establishment prints a coupon which is completely valid; customers use the coupons, an are later told they are useless. Not only did this restaurant use deceptive practices to lure customers in. To make matters worse, they even lied about the measly $5.00 they would take off.

My wife and I later discovered that they never took off, and we were indeed charged the regular price for both meals. I wasn't so upset that we were charged full price, as I was of the fact that they felt it necessary to lie about it. Just be upfront, state what you're going to charge, and stick to it.

Be careful if you are considering this place, and I'd highly recommend paying with cash versus a credit card, as they seem to "say one thing, but do another"!

Still doesn't explain

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

The employee above just explained to you that your coupon was not valid. The 50% off coupon excluded holidays.

Why would you expect them to honor a coupon that had restrictions on use?

Additionally, whenever I sit down at a restaurant I always show and explain any coupon I wish to use before ordering. Perhaps you should do this and avoid this situation in the future.

Question and comment...

Did the meal invitation extended to your wife include a discount or free meal? This would be an acceptable process, just wondered if they offered it.
As far as damage control, it seems the employees comment was to educate you as to why the coupon was not honored in the first place. I used to cashier for a restaurant and often had to explain why the coupon being offered couldn't be accepted.

After initially filing this report, I stumbled across some reviews from other people in regards to Byram's Lobster House. And some of the people seemed to have had "Questionable" experiences to say the least.

Hmmm take a look for yourself:

As for Jennifer, for "ASSuming" that this matter was never brought up to management. My wife did call as soon as she noticed we were overcharged, and guess what...absolutely nothing was done to rectify the matter, except for an invitation to come back there and eat again. Ummm No Thanks, we'll pass! There are other more reputable restaurants to choose from, and that's exactly where we will be dining at next time.

Oh yea, Nice attempt at damage control though...lol!

Unfortunately people do not always read the coupons

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 25, 2009

I know the coupon that the customer was talking about. Unfortunately I have found that many people do not read the entire coupon just the offer. That coupon states that it is not valid on holidays and there is a $10.00 maximum. How ever there was a coupon that did have $5.00 off for Mothers Day and we offered it to people who had the coupon in question whether or not they brought in the $5.00 off coupon. The 50% off coupon usually has a lengthy expiration date although new one come out all the time.
I have run into the same situation with the entertainment card. People do not read the restriction. Either they come in on the holidays trying to use the card or they want to use it at lunch time when it states dinner entrees. Either way we always take a little some thing off.
If the $5.00 was not taken off at the time of payment I assure you it was not done on purpose and wish that the customer had brought it to our attention. We are not trying to ripoff anyone after all that would be counter productive in our line of work. We want the customer to come back because that is what keeps us going.
