Do not buy a warranty from this company! We were told by the used car dealer that it would take a few days for CARS to receive & process our warranty but that we would be covered as of the date of purchase. This IS NOT the case! Coverage only goes into effect after the application is received with payment & then "approved" by CARS. Your ID card & claim forms are mailed up to 15 days after the application has been "approved". I was told by a supervisor from CARS that the car dealers are not direct representatives for CARS & regardless of what they may tell you that the coverage is not immediate. However, CARS does not sell their warranty directly to the public. Their warranties are only available through a car dealer that offers their product. Thus, putting any & all problems back to the car dealer. Warning, read every word of the contract before signing. I purchased a limited warranty when I purchase a 96 Jeep for my son since he would be driving from NJ to MI. I figured if anything went wrong within the first 3 months while he was away at college he would have coverage. We purchased the warranty on Friday, June 25, 2010 when we purchased the vehicle. On Sunday, June 27, 2010 while he was driving to MI the vehicle broke down in Ohio & we had to have it towed the remaining 4 hours to MI. He was unable to get the vehicle into a repair shop until Tuesday, July 6, 2010. And we were informed on July 8, 2010 that CARS had denied our claim because our coverage did not take effect until July 1, 2010. It doesn't pay to be honest these days. If we had said it broke on the day of the claim it would have been covered. Now we have an estimated 1500.00 - 1800.00 dollar transmission cost to get the vehicle operational again. Save yourself time & money. Do not buy a warranty from any dealer that offers a CARS protection plus warranty. Cars has been ripping people off since 1998. You work hard for you money these days do give a dime of it to this company. Take the chance that nothing will go wrong but when it does, pay for the repairs yourself & give the cash to another poor working stiff instead.

Customer information is inaccurate

AUTHOR: David - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 13, 2011

I would like to clarify the remarks posted by this customer. Our records indicate that the customer purchased the vehicle on 6/25/2010. At the same time he paid for the warranty and filled out the application. The application clearly states in bold immediately below the customer's signature that the contract does not go into effect until it is received with payment and approved by CARS.

The customer's son reported that he noticed a problem with the vehicle after only 300 miles. He said that he left for Michigan on 6/27/2010 and the transmission light came on.

The contract was not received by CARS until 6/30/2010. That is when it was approved. The claim was called in on 7/7/2010 at 8:55 am. After obtaining the facts from the customer and finding out that the mechanical breakdown occurred well before the contract was received and accepted, CARS denied the coverage. We regret that the customer had experienced such a bad experience with his car, but, the warranty was clear and unambiguous.

CARS currently maintains an A+ rating with the BBB of Western Pennsylvania.
