I received three calls, all within five minutes from a area code of 760. They left a message in heavy accent asking me to call back or have my attorney call back. It threated legal action and arrest and to call them back.

Usually i ignore these things as solicitations; however, the word "attorney" and "arrest" caught my attention.

Yes, I've used cash advances in the past. You just do when you're a single mom trying to make ends meet. So, I couldn't say for certainty that maybe somewhere a long time ago it may have happened. I was pretty sure I hadn't done that, but you never know. So when they mentioned that I hadn't paid, that they would arrest me at my work and put in a permanent record of interstate fraud for cash advance serves. It was so puzzeling. I kept asking them to speak clearer as I could not understand them, their accent was so heavy. She hung up on me once so I called back and asked her again who she was and what it was about. She indicated that I couldnt not interrupt until she was all done and then I could ask questions.

She mentioned my living in California, which was weird because I've only lived in California for less than a year. So I know it's a bogus. It's still frightening to get a call like that. Public humiliation is a huge motivator for people to pay, and if I wasn't suspicious about it in the first place, I may have tried to pay--which is what they want you to do with no questions asked.

I a going on the assumption that no further action will be taken against me and just offer my condolences to anyone who gets a call like this.

Don't panic and tell them to take a hike.
