CBCS rip-off, don't listen to their settlement offer Winooski, Vermont Nationwide

Like another gentleman I've seen on this website, I had MCI. I switched carriers to another company (and have had no problems with them). MCI has continued to charge me, of which I didn't know. The bill was sent to CBCS for collections. At the time (2001-2002) I was having hard times and was on a downward spiral mentally. They offered a settlement, pay half, and they'd leave me alone. I was desperate and I agreed.

Suddenly in 2005 (after not hearing from them in 3 years), they're harrassing me for the full amount. I've called MCI, and they have absolutly no record of me ever even having an account with them. When I talk with CBCS, they say the debt is from MCI, and I need to pay it off or it'll effect my credit. They're trying to offer me another settlement. I'm not so desperate this time, and I refuse.

I ask them how I get all the information they have on me, everything with my name on it. They say I need to request it in writing. They wont, however, give me the address to send the request to. Are they scared I'll take it to a lawyer?

I can't find any website for them that is useful, that doesn't requre an address and contact info to get a response. They have my phone number, that's enough.

THEY GET PAID ON COMMISSION! My step-father was hired by a collection agency, and quit the same day. They're so mean and harsh b/c if they get you to pay on a "debt", then they get a commission. They don't care that it may be ruining your credit, they care about their commission.

This is all terribly upsetting, and is obviously long lasting. Get everything in writing you can, write down every name you talk to. As my mother says : "If they wont help you, ask for their manager. If they wont help you, ask for their manager, etc". They're trying to come after me for 150$. 150$!!! For 3-4 years! This is rediculous. Please be careful.
