Centaur Forge is a company that sells blacksmith supplies and equipment.  We took the advice of another person, and ordered a fire pot from them.

The fire pot, when it arrived, appeared to be poorly cast.  The company's name was worn off in places on the cast iron, and there was pitting in the bottom of the pot, where the fire actually goes. This indicates worn casting molds.

When I called Centaur Forge to complain and request a new one be sent, they did not wish to do so at first.  The woman I spoke to was rude, but finally agreed to send a replacement pot, along with the additional part they forgot to send with the first shipment.

When the replacement pot arrived, we found it to be worse than the first one.  It had not even been finished into a round shape and looked very rough where the casting marks had been ground unevenly.  After a couple of days, we decided to just repack the second pot we had been sent and return it.  We decided to just deal with the first one. I tried calling about the second pot, and left a voicemail which was never returned.

In the meantime, we received an email from C.F., demanding the return of the defective pot or else they would charge our card again.  I did not pay a lot of attention to this, as we were in the process of returning the second pot via FedEx.  3 days after the package was sent, we were charged.  We were also charged a higher amount than the original pot cost.

Now we have received another email from them, saying that the pot they got back had been used and oiled and could not be sold as new, so while they would refund the second charge, it would be less a 25% restocking fee.  Keep in mind, this is the one we just unpacked, let sit for a couple of days, and repackaged.  It was certainly never used.

I would advise anyone considering their products to think again, in case this happens to them.

fire pot issues

We tried very hard to satisfy this customer. Unfortunately it all became very confusing to the customer. We sell over 300 fire pots a year and do not have complaints similar to this customer. The whole process was unfortunate.
