I started receiving magazines about a year ago, ones I have never signed up for. The magazines include Rolling Stone, Veranda, O, and several others. These were never ordered and I never gave anyone my credit card number authorizing these magazines to start coming to me.
I received several phone calls to my cell phone (which is not listed anywhere that I am aware of online) saying that they were the monitor of my magazines. After I told them I only have 2 legitimate magazines that I purchase and I do them directly with the magazine complany, they would hang up on me.
Yesterday I received a bill from Central Billing Debt Collections for $847.97 that states "Your account has been assigned to this office for collection". The creditor listed is "Readers Discount Center" which I am assuming is the company that has been sending me all of these magazines. However I have never signed up for these and do not intend to pay for these. The letter goes on to say that I will be forced to pay this amount and I need to give them my credit card number immediately to settle this debt or they will report a "negative credit report" on my credit for this debt. This is outragious since I never gave them permission in the first place to send me the magazines and tried several times to stop them but no one could say where they were coming from.
Whenever I look up this company online I cannot find them so therefore they are trying to scam me into paying this outragious amount for magazines. I can take all of these from the shelf and not pay this much for them.
Has anyone else been done this way?

I also received a letter last week from Central Billing Network saying that I owed $938.85 to Readers Discount Center. Several years back, I had trouble cancelling a magazine service, but I paid for the full 2 years and was finally done with them. I am unsure if this is somehow connected, but they say this was from 2012. When I asked Central Billing for a contact number for RDC, the number they gave me connected me to a voice mail that stated that there are no live operators and to leave my name and number and someone would contact me. I didn't do that.... I did however file a dispute on Central Billing's website. I'm waiting to hear back.
