chase switched from visa to mc. I have been a chase card holder for over 10 years with no late payments and money automatically taken from the checking to pay every month. One day while in toys r us store, I saw all the big signs up for the new toys r us chase card by MC and was told to sign up, so I can have my card changed over from visa. I did this. Then I get the card in the mail and activate it. I used it once and realized the number was different than my visa card. When I went to use the visa card they said it was no longer good and I should use the MC. Then I get another MC in the mail. I actived this one and started using it. This number was also different than the visa card. Once onlie, I noticed now that the visa and the second MC were tracking the same charges, so I assumed these two cards were identical and I destroyed the visa card. I then realized that I had two MC from toys r us and decided that once they take the money from my account and pay the bill, I will cancel the second one. The bill came and a day later I noticed they didn't take the money out of my checking account like they do on the other card, so I called them up. At that point I went online and noticed a $15 late payment fee. I told the supervisor the situation and asked her if she can just pay this bill for me and then cancel the card. I told her about the mix up and asked if she can please remove the $15 late fee as I was expecting the money to come out of my account. She told me that she could not do that because it was not a bank error and if I wanted to pay by phone there would be another fee! I could not believe it. I didn't understand what had happened and she told me that I should have setup online payments and it was my responsibility, but how could I have done that if I thought this card was replacing my visa card? This was not fair at all. I pleaded with her and even asked if I can talk to the CEO or write a letter and she told me it would make no difference and that the late fee would never be removed no matter how hard I fight it! At that point, I was so angry and knew that if I didn't pay this fee, it would come back to bite me in my butt later on, so I had to go into the account online and setup online payments to pay that charge card, just so I would not have to pay even more money to pay over the phone. After that, I had the card cancelled. She also told me that if I cancel the card it will reflect on my credit report in a negative manner. I was like what difference does that make and why should I be put in this position when I already have a MC from Chase. My problem is how can they issue me two cards to begin with both with my name on it with two different numbers? I think they were taking advantage of me and violited my rights as a customer. I hope there is someone out there that is much smarter than me and has the power to take this co. down. They play dirty and should not be allowed to get away with it.
