The transmission in my 2001 Impala blew up after only 38000 miles. Of course the warrenty ran out 2000 miles and 6 months ago. I called the customer non-service and they said they would try to help. In the mean time, the dealer had called the GM rep. He offered at 75% / 25% split of the cost. Sounds good right? Wrong. I pay 75%, they pay 25%. I figure at this rate they are still making money as the part markup is 30%

The customer service rep got me an even better deal. They would pay 25%, I could pay 75%, but only if it "made me happy". If it was not going to "make me happy", they would pay nothing. Huh?

So, do to the help of the customer rep, at least I get to be happy about paying $4000.00 for a new transmission. This from a customer that has criven GM cars for 25 years, and will never own another one.

Must be some transmission! They saw you coming...

AUTHOR: Ukiah - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 20, 2004

This is unbelievable.

The car is obviously out of warranty - you said so yourself. Given that you can, therefore, take it to any repair shop you like, you are: (1) going to allow this same dealer whom you believe to be dishonest to do the work and (2) are going to pay them several times over what the normal cost would be?

I don't get it! Is the entire car even worth $4000? Why would you even think of doing this? After reading your post, I used Google and found the correct rebuilt transmission for your car for $1194. And that includes a 5 YEAR warranty. And believe me, the labor isn't going to be $3K to remove and replace a tranny. So... $4000 for a transmission ???? You cannot be serious! And you're going to pay this?

You say: "This from a customer that has criven GM cars for 25 years, and will never own another one." Get a clue pal, the problem here isn't with GM, it's the owner. Go get a dictionary and look up "gullible". They saw you coming.....
