Today, January 14, 2007, I was at my cousin's party for her son at Chuck E. Cheese's. The party was scheduled for 2:00. The party went fine, other than they were a little nasty about explaining how many birthday cakes were given, due to the number of guests, although we hadn't complained or asked.
My cousin works as a bank teller, lives with my mom, has two kids and doesn't make much. To book this party, she went to the above-listed location, in person. She doesn't have access to the internet, so she went in person, paid the $30 to reserve the date and time and left. No explanation was given to her about the "receipt for the $30."
She went to pay after the party, today, and the $30 was not applied towards the bill. After speaking to a manager after she paid the entire bill today, without the $30 being applied, it was determined that in order for the $30 to be applied, she must bring the receipt with her. I asked why. I was told by the manager that, in order to keep people from simply not showing, the $30 is applied to the bill if they keep the receipt. That way, if they don't show up, the $30 is not returned, but may be used as a gift certificate at a later date.
My cousin did not keep her receipt. She was not told that the $30 would only be applied towards the party if the receipt was in hand. The manager kept saying, "It explains this on the website..." I said, "She wasn't ON the internet, she came in PERSON. Of all of your employees, many of them high school students, are you absolutely sure that they would explain this to someone?" She insisted that her five cashiers were all trained and ALWAYS state that you must bring the receipt with you in order to have the $30 deposit applied.
I said, "Why can't you give her back the $30, then?" She said, "She could show up some other time and use it as a gift certificate or request a refund." I said, "She can't even find it, was NOT told of your policy." We left soon after.

I used to work as a party hostess at my local Chuck E Cheese 5 years ago. I'm sorry your friend lost her $30. All the managers at CEC that I worked with (I worked with 3 since there was a fast turn over) would have taken the $30 off her bill since most people who buy parties at the store leave their receipt at home.
If you order a party online, your card doesn't get charged $30 unless you fail to show up. That's why you don't have a receipt for online purchases, if I recall correctly.

Yes, the salad bar is crap. I knew a worker who got sick on the eggs in it. I don't advice anyone eating their salads. There prices aren't great, but you don't go to CEC for a value. If you want to save a little money, buy 'children' (8 oz) cups for everyone (instead of the 'adult' (12 oz) cups) as they are still free refills or buy their plastic cups and bring them back each time (you don't have to pay for drinks again, as long as you have the cups).
I'm truly sorry the game room workers didn't give your kids their tokens back. The workers at my store always had a pocket of tokens just for that purpose. As for high school workers working there, 4 or 5 days of the week there was a game engineer at our store fixing the games. The games do break down from time to time and believe me, the employees hate it more than you do when they do.

The loss of your $30.00 does not surprise anybody. We took the grandkids to a CC here in L.A. Both ATM token machines were broken which caused a very long line at the one register they had open selling food, six registers with one open and the place was packed. The pizza was crap, ended up leaving most of it on the table when we left. The salad bar was a joke, most of the items were empty and the salad was old, stale and limp. The prices they rip you off for should get you decent food at least. Plus the entire place was filthy dirty, tables and seats were dirty and un-sanitary.
A large number of the "games" were broken, if you tried to report broken games or get your tokens back the high school kids working there just ignored you, they would not even put up out of order signs, they just kept taking peoples tokens. When the kids went to cash in their tokens four out of six coupon counting machines were broken which caused long lines and added frustration. CC has become a cash cow for it's owners and a rip off dump for it's customers. We will never go thru their doors again. CC is a complete rip off!! The only way it will improve is for people to STAY AWAY until they clean up their act!
