Cingular is lowering the bar, not raising it. We were ripped off by a contract we signed with AT&T wireless for two phones (package deal supposedly) for $59.99 and $19.99 for the second phone per month. The bill would most often amount to $105 per month with all the taxes included. In the meantime, my husband's factory, where he had been employed for the past 30 years, moved out of town.
We have attempted to keep our end of the contract, but it's too bad they can't keep theirs. Sometime last year, AT&T merged with Cingular. Isn't that a joke! Since we have fallen behind in our payments, they now want to turn us over to collection. This is after we have explained our situation, which was beyond our control to them over and over again. I hope we can take on some monopolizing corporations like these and get them where it hurts for a change.

Breach of Contract???

I don't understand why you are saying that they broke their contract either. Is it because of the taxes they added to your account? 95% of all services are taxable depending on your state/county/city regulations.
It is not the company's fault that you did not read your contract fully before signing, if you had you would have noticed that plan fees are subject to certain taxes, which are not included in the base rate figure.
I am not a cingular customer, but I do have cell phone service and the tax information is always stated in fine print at the bottom of the little sheets that show the rate plans.
While it is unfortunate that your husband has work issue's you are still responsible for the contract you signed.
Hope you find a way to resolve your issue's without damaging your credit.

Sorry about your husband's job. Being unemployed sucks...
Any company you owe money to can (and probaby will) turn you over to collections if you don't pay them. Doesn't matter if it's a cell company, a credit card, a utility, a Dr.'s office, etc.
In fact, the agreement you signed stated you agreed to pay Cingular for the length of the contract. So, in fact, you are the one not keeping your "end of the contract".
Next time u get a cell phone, don't sign any contract. You will pay more for the phone, but you'll have the freedom to end your service when YOU want to, not when the carrier says you can.

I don't understand

Why are you putting this on Cingular? When the bill gets behind you get turned over to collections. That is not exclusive to Cingular. They are not ripping you off.

How is Cingular now holding up their end of the contract?

You accussed Cingular of not holding up their end of the contract. First, how are they not doing this. By your statements, Cingular has done nothing other than send your account to collections. I understand that what your are going through financially, as I have been looking for work for a few months.
Unfournately though, Cingular does not have to work with you. The contract you signed with them said that you will keep service with them for a period of time. You had 2 options. You could continue to pay for the service, or you could cancel and pay the termination fee. While not good options, they are the options you agreed to when you signed the contracts. Cingular has lived up to their end of the deal.
