I purchased a 50" flat screen plasma from Circuit City on Aug 12th for my business. (It is for a children's center that does a moive night every Fri & Sat) I was waiting for a remodel to get done and we mounted the TV to use for the first time on Sept. 19th. (it sat untouched until then) It worked great for 1 week and then on Sept 30th while watching it we heard a loud pop and the TV went dead. I panicked because later that night was a movie night that kids had signed up for. I took it back to circuit city with my reciept to exchange for a another one (I didn't ask for money back just wanted a replacement to use that night) they told me since it had been more than 30 days they couldn't exchange or refund and I would have to call the manufacturer.

I went through 2 supervisors and then the general manager explaining the situation and that the TV only worked a week and had to have one that night. Still they said sorry can't help you. I was floored. A major company like circuit city woldn't stand behind a product they sell that only lasted 1 week! They were so rude and could care less about my issue. I begged them almost in tears to please exchange the TV afterall it had only been 7 days after the 30 day return period. It wasn't like it was months, and I asked if they could make an exception. I didn't have another 1800 to go out and spend that day.

Still nothing and I could tell they just wanted me out of the store. They said the manufacturer would fix it no problem and i would just have to deal with them. I tried one last time and asked if they would be willing to get me a replacement and let them have the TV fixed by the manufacturer through them because of my circumstance and I had to have a tv up and working within 4 hours. Very rude and said we cannot help you and there is no way for us to override the system and exhange or refund your money.

I had to go purchase another TV (and it was not easy to mount that big of a TV, take it down, drive it over there then be stuck with it and have to go buy another.) I called the manufactuer and still they haven't sent anyone to fix it almost a month later. I was so dissapointed and have never been treated that rudely. I hope Circuit City goes out of business like I've read about because they dont deserve to be in business.

Good Luck

Don't buy from a failing company that filed Chapter 11 and has had a slow declining past couple of years. Circuit City has been closing stores and Best Buy has been opening new ones, should've been a clue. Contact the manufacturer if the store won't help you.

My thoughts...

Personally, I probably would have made an exception for you. However, the manager on duty has the right to decline a refund. We have a return policy to protect ourselves as a company from taking back too many returns and losing significant profit. In the future I would recommend buying the extended protection plan.
