I received a phone call on both my cell phone (went to voicemail) and my home phone saying that this caller is looking for (my name) and to press any button to speak to them.  I was connected to a really nasty woman named Brenda Allen who said that they had a complaint filed against me by a company for a payday loan.  They were preparing to file theft, bank fraud and attempt to defraud a business.  She had my (old) banking information, my social security number, everything. I told her that I had never taken this loan out and invited her to go and file the appropriate charges so that we can get this resolved in court. Still annoyed, I called the number back later in the evening and the call would not connect.

If you EVER get a call like this:

*Do not respond.  A legitimate collection agency will generally send information through the mail and/or call

*Take notes on each and every contact.  Get the person's name, extension, and most of all ask for the address.  Any legitimate collection agency will give you an address. (This one wouldn't).

*Tell them that you are recording the call.  Most scammers will hang up.

*File a complaint with every agency you can:  FBI, FTC, local police, your state's Attorney General.

*If they threaten physical harm call the police immediately if you feel that you are in danger.

I get calls like this bunched together a couple of times a year, always a different collection agency, always a different company that I supposedly owe money to.
