Visited Coggin Toyota's web site and negotiated the deal with the "Internet Sales Manager", Shery Drabek. Arrived at the dealer & was advised that they would not honor the price they agreed to "because dealer incentived had expired." There were never any dealer incentives on a Camry. That was the 1st of en endless series of lies.
I decided to buy anyway and agreed to the extra $500. Got in the F&I office and Sandra decided to add the rebate and my down payment to the price we had already agreed on. Very deceptive...
The car was "spot delivered" and naturally the dealer called back saying the bank wants another $1k down. I declined because they were actually trying t sell me a Camry for more than sticker price! They "worked it out" and want me to re-sign the contract. Had them fax the contract to me and was presented with yet another purchase price! Furthermore, they want me to pay a $599 Dealer Prep Fee. That's a very expensive car wash and the true cost of dealer prep is included in the MSRP.
I will be taking the car back tonight and buying from Ernie Palmer Toyota of Jacksonville. While one may expect a car salesman to be a liar, I've never seen them go this far. Stay away!!!

Karl,
You said that "Toyota Corporation DOES NOT want honest, & ethical people working at Toyota
dealerships, and representing the Toyota product!!!!"
I work for the dealership being discussed here. And for you to say that Toyota DOES NOT want honest and ethical people selling there product is ABSURD. I have NEVER miss lead, lied or talk in circles to my customers. There are many salesmen here that feel and act the same as I do. You should NEVER slam a business that you know nothing about. Your an idiot......

'DEALER FEES' are simply.....

ADDITIONAL PROFIT to the Dealer!
There are some auto dealers who have NO 'Dealer Fees'. But they are in the minority. A 'Dealer Fee' of $599 allows the Toyota Dealer to make $599 over invoice on the sale if you agree on a sale at true invoice price.
It's just another 'TRICK' in their bag of TREATS!
There's also a 'Holdback' on all new Toyotas. It's around 4% of invoice, or thereabouts.
EXAMPLE: If a Camry has an 'invoice price' of $24,500 to the dealer, then the 'holdback' is about $980.00 in profit that Toyota Corporation will pay the dealer after the transaction is completed, & funded. So, if you buy the Camry at 'invoice', and pay the dealer fee of $599, the dealer actually makes a profit of $1,579.00 because $599 + $980 = $1,579.00, correct?
And IF the Toyota Dealer TRICKS you into paying a HIGHER interest rate on your loan, and IF they TRICK you into buying an EXTENDED WARRANTY, then the profit on that sale will be MUCH, MUCH, higher!!!!
Toyota dealers are notorious for selling vehicles at 'INVOICE', and then 'STICKING IT TO YOU' on back-end profit (like EXTENDED WARRANTIES) and higher interest rates which they make money on too!
In short, Toyota Corporation is a REFLECTION of what went wrong in the USA over the past several years, & even in the last few decades.
WELCOME TO AMERICA- ONE BIG TOYOTA DEALERSHIP: IN LIES, GREED, DECEPTION, MANIPULATION, & FRAUD WE TRUST!
I'm Karl, and I approve this Update!
P.S. Toyota Corporation DOES NOT want honest, & ethical people working at Toyota dealerships, and representing the Toyota product!!!!
I CAN PROVE IT!!!!!!

I've Noticed That

I buy alot of vehicles and try and help other to do so. Even with the tough times that we are in, I've noticed that these frickkin' car dealers are really trying to screw the few people who ARE buying vehicles. It's as if they are trying to make up their shortage of buyers by adding onto those who are buying. I'll take a car buyer into a dealership and right off the bat, they'll try and screw him over. Like the OP stated, they try and sell the vehicle OVER MSRP, then add all kinds of inflated expenses. Went to look at a Charger a couple of weeks ago at Fiesta Dodge in San Antonio. Now, I've been trying to buy a vehicle from them for over 20 years, but never had any luck cause they never have the vehicle in the ad. I know, it's usually a come-on just to get suckers like me in the door. So anyway, I go in and ask about their vehicle in the ad and the salesman says they have it. I'm amazed. He shows me the vehicle at the stated price in the paper. THEN they have added $2,500 worth of BS to the price. Lord, if the had just left it alone, I'd have bought the vehicle. When are the dealers gonna learn? After taking enough folks around to enough dealers, I know who to stay away from and who's gonna be square and up front, as far as a car dealer can be. Others are as crooked as the day is long.
