I moved from GA to DC on June 9th. When I moved, I discontinued my service with Comcast. On that day, I paid my account balance in cash when I turned in my modem. The account was apparently not closed, I guess. I am guessing this because Comcast sent me a refund check in late June for $48.79.

Three weeks later, in late July, Comcast sent me a bill stating that my account was past due. For reasons that I do not understand, after I was sent a refund check, I was charged $54.89 for a service that I had cancelled more than a month prior. Comcast attempted to charge this to my old bank account, which I had since closed. This obviously did not work so I was charged a $30 fee. This begs the question of why Comcast sent me a refund check for $48.79 if they are going to surprise me with a new bill for $54.89 a month later. This does not make sense to me.

I gave up on attempting to remedy the billing errors and opted to pay the $84.89 balance on my account just to make this ordeal end. After paying the full balance with my Visa card, my online bill still reflected that I had not paid. After speaking to several customer service representatives, I was told that the payment was received but that it was credited to the old address, rather than to my account, and that my old address now belongs to somebody else and they likely received the credit for my payment. So, my account still shows an outstanding balance of $84.89 even though Comcast took that amount from my credit card account.

The least obstructionist of the customer service representatives told me that the only way to remedy this problem is to fax a copy of my credit card statement, showing that I paid my balance. I did that a week ago. I called today and was told that they had not received it. So, I need to fax it in again. Long-distance faxes cost $2 per page. I have also spent no less than 60 minutes on the phone, dealing with 6 different representatives, continually being redirected, including one occasion where the extension that I was redirected to rang for a full 3 minutes and then somebody picked up the phone and immediately hung it up.

I still do not have a resolution to this problem as I am continuing to fax in sensitive personal information to these morons in hopes of getting this resolved before it goes on my credit report.
