I have never in my life heard of Comdata, also going as Comdata Payment Innovation.

I received in the mail a letter from Comdata, PO Box 220430, Chantilly, VA 20153 which included:

  • -a copy of a Master Card to activate
  • -a welcome letter from Comdata
  • -a Comdata Cardholder Agreement booklet

According to their letter “Your company has chosen the Comdata Card – the most advanced way to provide you with your funds” and also “Activate you card immediately.”

The accompanied booklet states “This Card is a prepaid card and not a credit card.  You do not have a credit line or overdraft protection…” and “These Cards are offered exclusively to businesses for purposes of distributing non-payroll funds.  Only the Company may load value to your Card, and you may redeem the value loaded to your Card…”

I have never in my life heard of this company.  They have included a plastic Master Card for me to activate too.

I do not work for ANY company, so no one is adding funds to any account for me to pick up or to activate.

This is obviously a fake scam company.  I have never and will never do business with them.  Yet they are mailing out Master Cards to try to fool people into their “User Agreement” for something that is not even a real bank account or even a real Master Card.  Absolutely outrageous.

Reading thru the reviews on various other pages, Comdata has a history of scamming people for years it seems.  If you get this fake card, do not activate it.  No one is trying to send you “non-payroll funds” for anything, they are scammers who are trying to steal your personal information and apparently get your consent for who knows what SCAM.

It is also the same company as the one listed in TN, same website information, phone number is listed as 888.265.8228.

Still Doesn't Explain Why I Got This Card

AUTHOR: Jennifer - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Yet I don't.  So your personal experience has nothing to do with why I got a Master Card from them.  And calling the company did not clear it up either, as I have already stated.

I am trying to help

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, January 22, 2018

I can see where you are coming from, and I am NOT telling you to activate the card.  In fact unless you know where it was coming from I wouldn't activate it either.

But in reading this again one thing stood out...

“These Cards are offered exclusively to businesses for purposes of distributing  non-payroll funds"

I underlined the important part. It stated "NON-PAYROLL" funds, meaning that this did not come from a job, it is coming from another source of income.  Do you have any company you are expecting a payment from?  If so you may want to give them a call.  Perhaps this isn't fraud but funds you are entitled to and this is how that company is dispursing them.  Most likely that company will send you information on the card. Perhaps they did and you tossed it thinking it was junk mail.

If you are going to say that this is impossible as well, then you must go back with the first thought. Someone is using your information and you should not ignore it.  In this case if you don't do anything else today, do these two things. Go to the police and file a report, they may actually be able to contact Comdata and get the information to follow up with. Contact the Credit Reporting Agencies and file a Fraud Alert, as if they have your name and address it is likely that the scammer has your SSN as well.

But in the end if you just want to ignore it and hope it will go away, I hope you are right and this was just one big mistake. Where you aren't back here writing another report in a few months talking baout how another company opened up a credit card in your name, your car registration was suspended for parking tickets in a city you never lived in, or the IRS is telling you that you owe $10,000 in back taxes for a job you never had.

Once again Good Luck and no I will not be updating this anymore, however I hope you do.

Credit Freeze

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, January 22, 2018

Yes I have frozen my Credit at all 3 Credit Reporting Agencies.  I have checked and there was nothing suspicious there either.

When I called Comdata, they wouldn't tell me how or why they got my information, they "suggested" that they had not sent the card.  But the phone number is actually their phone number and that is the number that I called.

No not expecting any money from any company.  Very strange.  I understand that companies can put money on this, but researching unsolicited payment cards with either a MC or Visa logo, these sorts of cards have been mailed to people in the past too by other companies.  Then to activate, you would supply more personal information, like SS# or DOB, which is actually phishing, but of course not activating.

It still remains, it came from Comdata, they can not explain how or why I received this card, not going to activate the card, put a freeze on my credit, reported to them about receiving this and it being suspicious.  It is true that Comdata could have gotten my info. from a list, but why send a MC to activate?  Then I call and they can't tell me why either.

Thanks for the input.

Contacted Comdata

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (United States)

POSTED: Monday, January 22, 2018

Thanks for the advice.

I have contacted Comdata and they would not tell me where they got my information from or why I received this MC.  For all purposes, it appears to be a MC that a company puts money onto, but I do not work for any company.

I tried to find out why they have my name and address to send me the MC for money to be added, but they absolutely would not say and suggested that it is only "Marketing".  Obviously I am not activating it, seems to be a phishing scheme to fool you into activating the card and I can't imagine that I am the only one who received it.

A while ago I opted-out of all advertising mailings and credit card offers, though I still randomly receive them once in a while.  I never receive cards that say "Activate now", only "on approved credit".  If they can't tell me, and I've never heard of them before now, I'm sticking by it being an attempted scam to either get more of my personal info. or to activate a card that would be of no use.

Not a fake card.

AUTHOR: Robert - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, January 21, 2018

This is NOT a scam company and based on what you wrote here it is not a fake card.

If you are saying you do not work for any company and have not been notified you are going to this "debit card", there is a very good chance you are now a victim of Identity Theft.

This could be a "Mistake" but it also could be that someone is very likely using your name, address, and most likely your SSN to gain employment.  Where until now the employer was giving them a paper check so they could get away with it without you even knowing.

The point is that this company is only using information it is getting from the Employer.  So I would contact Comdata and see if they will give you the information for the employer.  I would then contact you local law enforcement and file a report.   As a matter of practice you need to immediatly look at  your credit reports to see if you notice any suspicous activity.

Hopefully it is not that serious, but the point is it COULD be and at this point you should not ignore it.

Good Luck
