My boyfriend was incarcerated in february in new jersey. The calls were $5.00 per minute from the Evercom. I incurred a bill of 150+. He was then re-incarcerated in april of this month and now the calls are $5.00 to connect and 89 cents per minute. Evercom took money from me that I didnt owe to them. My bill was 150+ and they took an extra hundred dollars from me. I pay tha bill with my credit card and they took my money.

They also had the nerve to block my line after I paid them and failed to tell me that there was a limit on the amount of money you can talk up for the first 24hrs. They were very rude to me and left me on hold for hours. Something needs to be done about this.

That's quite an interesting story.. unfortunately the information provided isn't true..

Calls don't cost $5.00/min, they are actually based on milage. Seeing as how you are out-of-state, the calls at most WOULD cost $3.95 to connect and $.89 a minute. Why? No idea, the rates are not created by Evercom/Correctional Billing Services.

Company policy is if you are billed, then those calls are going on your phone bill and you are charged for the collect calls you accept. You then pay your phone company and call CBS with a confirmation or receipt number so they can clear your balance immediately. If you were making a payment over the phone by a credit card, you were either putting in an advance payment or setting up a Pre-Paid account called Advance Connect. The information in CBS's database does not save card/cheque information, hence why we have to collect the same information every time you call in. Payment does not come out directly, which is why if a payment is returned or you "forget" to pay, you go into Collections.

You did get one thing right though, the line will block if you accept $50 worth of calls in a 24hr period. This is called a High Velocity Block and is implemented AUTOMATICALLY so someone in your household cannot run up your bill.

If you don't like the services, use a calling card or pick better boyfriends.
