I bought speakers for my computer from Creative labs at Office Depot. I paid more for the speakers only because they had a rebate. I mailed off my rebate with all of the proper paerwork.

About a month later I got a postcard from them saying that the receipt was missing. I called the number on the postcard, because I knew for a fact that I checked that envelope several times to make sure the receipt and all of the other stuff they asked for was included.

I taled to a guy named Seth and he told me that the receipt was in there, but it did not have a date on it!! Oh, please. I called Office Depot and they said that all of their receipts had the date printed on them, which I already knew. I called Creative Labs back and they said that they would try to process it again and they would call me back.

I waited about another month, finally I called them back. I got ahold of a guy who was extremely rude. He starting smarting off and told me that they did not find a receipt with my rebate and that Seth was wrong in telling me that they found one without a receipt. He went on to say that it had been too long to extend my rebate and they had tried to contact me and even sent me an e-mail. I never heard from them and I never got an e-mail from them, I check my e-mail several times a day. Needless to say I am very upset with this Company, I will never buy from them again. I am an advisor at a major University and have gotten the word out to several people to buy speakers from anyone, but Creative Labs.

They are deceptive and I feel like they had no intention of fulfilling my rebate. Can you say ripoff!!

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

No free lunches buying speakers for only the rebate, then you started off on the wrong track

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

If you were buying speakers for only the rebate, then you started off on the wrong track already. I believe that not having a date on the receipt is not a good thing, however, if you feel like you were shorted by creative in some way there are other avenues. Staples for example will rebate you the amount offered (with the proper papers of course) as they collectively pursue businesses who do not honor their rebates and refunds.

Just because they didn't give you something for nothing, or a lot less than shelf price, they do make some of the better computer speakers on the market. If you buy Cambridge, you are buying creative, they are the best in their price range.

Speakers make up just one grain of sand in the bucket for this company, which gets threats daily that "we wont' buy your product anymore", but 3 others are in line to take your place. They are fighting for the lead position in MP3 players, they are #1 in sound cards, and are #1 in their price range for speakers.

Anyway, when I send in rebates, I make sure to photocopy everything first, and first I try to send a photocopy of the reciept (much of the time they accept this) so the original is yours in case of a warranty claim.

Probably my rebuttal is pointless, but if people want to threaten or boycott a company, they should really do it, instead of pissing themselves off over it.

In your defense, I know Seth (only one works there), not the brightest light in the harbour, and I'm wondering why he was the guy to take your call, it's not his job.
