unfortunately i told my son to purchase the extended warranty on his used car purchase especially when it was represented as a bumper to bumper.

talk about a group of thieves and liars.. he was having problems with the right rear wheel, i thought it was a wheel bearing. i called this company to make sure it would be covered. and they said it was.

it was taken to the dealer for repairs,we were told that it was the rear wheel bearing and spindle and a front linkage and few other items. then the dealer said he called the service contract co and was told that the mentioned items WOULD NOT be covered. even though the day before i was told at least the rear wheel bearing would be covered, (i didnt ask about the spindle because i didnt know it maybe bad)

calling the daimler chrysler service company, spoke to someone named mike and was told nothing would be covered under this contract. i told him that this service contract sucked and was crap, his response was that it was a good contract. then if it was good why doesnt it cover anything, esp when you are told that items are covdered.

so my son paid a fortune for nothing, and dealer said min to fix the problem in the rear would be $560. i ended up taking the car home, even though the dealer advised against it due to safety issues. but at this time funds were not available, considering it should have been covered under contract

What type of warranty?

AUTHOR: Jason - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 19, 2005

While I obviously don't know what warranty you purchased, it does make a big difference. You mention it was described as "bumper to bumper" and if that is the case, then this repair should definately be covered. The only things not covered under that service contract would be normal wear and tear items. Headlights, brakes(drums and rotors included) battery, body components, glass, etc)

If the contract you purchased was a limited contract, such as a Powertrain contract, then it gets a little more difficult. I would consider a wheel bearing to be part of the drivetrain of a vehicle, but it depends on Chrysler's interpretation which should be spelled out in the contract.

A copy of a standard Chrysler powertrain contract is available at http://www.extended-warranty-pro.com/plan_provisions.pdf, and as you can see, a wheel bearing is NOT covered, although dang near everything else that could go wrong in the rear end is.

My first guess as to what happened here, giving everyone the benefit of the doubt is that perhaps when purchasing the vehicle, your son was offered the complete coverage (bumper to bumper) and you recommended he accept, but then they gave the option to downgrade to the Powertrain warranty, which covers any major repairs ($560 is "major" to me too, but not as major as an engine) for far less money. There was confusion between what was said to him and then translated by him to you. Unless you were actually there when the deal went down, you're operating on second hand info. For that matter, i'm operating on third hand info, but i'm just throwing guesses out as to what might have happened.

I do not understand why you were told it would be covered when speaking to them on the phone, unless you told them he had the complete coverage, which as you understood he did, and then arriving at the dealership they pulled the actual contract and saw it was only a powertrain warranty.

I don't know the money he paid for the contract, I would imagine close to $1000 or so, and before wadding the contract up as worthless.... If the transmission or another major component fails, that contract will be worth it's weight in gold when a $1800 repair costs $100 for the deductible. And that's something else you need to know, just in case, the service contract probably does have either a $100 or $200 deductible for each repair visit.
