This morning I went to DFCU to cash a check for my 83 yr old mother so I can bring her funds in Canada where she stays in the summer months. The teller went to check with the manager (Terri Robinson) to see if they would wave the fee to non members(me). All I got after waiting 10 minutes was a BS excuse in order for them to gouge my mother's money.
This Credit Union always advertises how they are so much different than a bank and the usual bank practices where in fact they are just like a bank. My mother and father have been members there since 1966! probably since before this manager was born.
Is this the way they like to treat a member in long standing?

No. Dfcu financial. does not care about their members. Only the dollar sign.
Dfcu has gotten very greedy over the years. I've been a member there for over 22 years.
I have recently found egregious "insufficient funds" charges on my account that Dfcu managers refuse
to correct! I have called, spoke to managers. The managers are extremely rude and detached.
I will be closing my account at dfcu financial next month.

by time you go to your bank, it could clear bad. Cashing check at person's bank you know it is good. again, if bank does not honor check it' s bad and can't be use as legal tender. Check would have to be for 5 dollars more to recover the amount owed. Why should someone who renders a service for a certain price have to charge more because of the bank stupidity. If you are paid in cash you get the right amount butt if you use a check at a bank you use and it's not honor it's bad. remember the person who has an account at that bank assume it will be honor or else they would pay cash. the person cashing the check should not be penalized for cashing a check for less than the amount owed to them.

Not being refused

The check is not being refused. Charging a fee to cash a check is way different than the check being refused. You do realize banks and credit unions are for profit businesses right? They have every right to charge a NONCUSTOMER a fee for using their services. This fee is so easy to ignore, just take the check to a bank or credit union that you are actually a customer at and it will be free.

And banks are wrong to do this

Bank is drawn on a good account, legal tender. Bank refuses check, means no good, bad check. Banks are wrong to charge fee. Get the point!!!! If you can't get your money, go back to person and tell them bank refuses to honor check, you need cash.

Check cashing fees...

are being charged by most banks and credit unions if they person cashing the check doesn't have an account with the institution the check is drawn on. It doesn't matter how long your mom has had an account with them. This is based on the fact that since you don't have an account you are charged the fee. The way to avoid this is to get an account or run the check through a bank/credit union you do have an account at.
Some practices are different at credit unions than at banks. But fees are similar for all institutions.

Maybe you didn't read my complaint properly. Firstly it is not a bank it is a CREDIT UNION that advertises that they don't operate like banks do.
Secondly, it was not my money it was HERS!
Thirdly, you sound like a typical BANK manager sticking up for gouging ripoff policies

You are not a customer of that bank. Your mother is. If your mother wants money without a fee then she has to do it. By writing a check to you, the money is coming from the money owed you. What bank will cash a check to a non-customer without a fee these days?
What you should have done is take the check to your own bank and cash it thus avoiding any fees.
Not a ripoff.
