I purchased a Dell Venue 8 Pro Windows 8.1 tablet at my local Walmart retail store on 5/8/2015. It's a great little tablet. The size is perfect and it's quite powerful...just one problem. Somehow Dell goofed the warranty up. It shows the product shipped and the warranty started on Oct. 22, 2013 and the warranty expired Oct. 22, 2014. Again...I purchased this MAY 8, 2015!!!!  I called Dell about this when I discovered it around the end of July 2015, provided them with a receipt and told it was to be taken care of -- no problems. They said it wasn't registered and transferred to me (even though I registered it after purchase). I was asked for an invoice and order number....obviously I didn't have this since I purchased it at a Walmart retail location. I have a receipt. That's all.

Fast forward to 8/10/2015 -- now I have a problem that requires repair (a broken charger port...very flawed design!)... I go online to start a support ticket and see the warranty is still showing the old dates and expired. I call them, and I'm given the same runaround -- I need an invoice and an order number. I sent them the receipt copy (scanned to PDF), and I'm told it should have my name, address, and contact info on it and an order number....but clearly it doesn't!  Walmart won't take the tablet back because it's exceeded 15 days. Dell doesn't seem to believe me that I own this (even though I paid for it and have a receipt), and effectively I have a dead tablet with an expired warranty!!! No matter who I talk to at Dell in Warranty Support or Customer Support -- this is what they continue to ask for again and again. I've even complained on Twitter and had a direct message conversation with "^SH" -- who after providing them with a copy of the receipt; told me "The details provided don't match our records. May I know under whose name was the system purchased from Walmart?" -- I give my name and they tell me to call customer care -- and then the cycle begins again! My frustration level is beyond any level of explanation I can muster up at this point.

PROBLEM FIXED!!

AUTHOR: - ()

POSTED: Monday, August 10, 2015

After taking my complaints to Twitter and tagging @Dell, I was direct messaged by @DellCares and eventually we got to the bottom of the problem and the warranty was reset to the date range appropriate to my purchase. The customer service team on the phone was completely useless. They barely speak English, and did not seem to understand the concept of buying a computer at Walmart and how exactly that works. I don't think they understood it was a retail chain store -- not a specialty store that gives you a real invoice. Either way -- it's now fixed! Thanks Dell!
